Instant FPGA Fashion Change, Except When It Isn'tFPGA Gurus - Loring WirbelApr. 18, 2011 |
Before anyone interprets today’s post as an indirect slam against FPGA startup Tabula Inc., I should state up front that I am very impressed, not only with the unique architecture and design software Tabula has pioneered, but with the marketing muscle the company has been able to apply to a well-defined market. The market presence is no doubt helped by the $108 million venture infusion Tabula recently received, but the fact the company is getting design wins from Cisco Systems and others indicates the company has some degree of staying power.
No, what I’m upset about is too many media stories that show little sense of institutional memory when it comes to dreamy-eyed talk about instant reconfigurability of computers, the most recent version being Tom Simonite’s story about Tabula in Technology Review
