Another communication trade show, another acquisition of a small IP core specialist by Xilinx. The acquisition of Modelware announced by Xilinx May 9 was not intended as a rerun of its March acquisition of Omiino, announced at the Optical Fibers in Communications conference. In fact, the two complementary purchases provide Xilinx with a way of enhancing IP from the physical layer all the way up to application layer.
