Sensor FusionThe Eyes Have it : A Mixed-signal IP Blog - Navraj Nandra, SynopsysJun. 21, 2012 |
Last week at Sensors Expo, the entire MEMS industry was focused on sensor fusion, also referred to as combo sensors. Sensor fusion goes beyond simply integrating multiple sensors in a package or a system for area and power savings and includes incorporating data processing to enable more accurate sensing. Yole Development predicts that discrete MEMS devices sales are actually going to decline over the next 5 years, but will be more than compensated for by the rapid growth of combo sensors consisting of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers (combining a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis gyro, and a 3-axis magnetometer creates a 9 degrees of freedom combo sensor)
