Altera De-Risks Intel Foundry MoveMannerisms - David MannersApr. 16, 2013 |
For 30 years Altera has used the same, sole-sourced foundry - TSMC. Recently it announced it would be going to Intel for sole-sourced foundry at the 14nm generation. Isn't this a risk?
"They're a proven manufacturer," Misha Burich, Altera's CTO, tells me, "and then we had to assess whether they could provide a good service. They have an organisation in place which can provide a good service. They have everything to provide us with the information we need. They have invested in putting this in place. The people involved in it are totally different to the people involved in doing x86 products."
