True Random Number Generators (TRNGs) from the Field of Attacks and Countermeasures
Blog Post Part 1: 'Fascinated by Randomness'
My fascination with random numbers is rooted deeper into my past than I had originally thought. My experiences with random number generators, starts back in the color computer days (Coco by Tandy) as an inquisitive curious kid. That's kind of dated now but it was my first introduction to random number generators. Anyone familiar with the color computer by Tandy knew that the RNG was very predictable and caused many predictable sequences in games and software based on random numbers. Since my Dad is a mathematician, we have discussed this topic many times in my life around the dinner table. Geeky perhaps, but one of my interests of my Dad. What is randomness? What's the difference between randomness and entropy? These are deep questions. I probably can't answer to anyone's satisfaction, but I do know how important they are to cryptography, identity, and the impact to a root of trust in a device.
