USB on Bikes
So I went to buy new lights for my bicycle. I turns out all the new rechargeable lights use USB. In fact, they use the original mini-B connector. This is the larger, more sturdy connector. If you have a Samsung phone or android phone, it likely uses the micro-B connector which is thinner.
Anyways, I asked the bike tech, and he said, “You just bring it inside the house and charge it like your phone” Since the battery life is about 20 hours or more, this means really you only need to bring it in for charging depending on how much you actually bike at night. So it’s not bad. The best thing, is that that lights are super bright compared to the lights you can support with an LED and AA batteries. (I probably still prefer to use rechargeable, removable AAA or AA batteries). I bought a tail light and head light, and installed them on my son’s bike. Then I followed him and could much more easily see him from over ½ mile away compared to his old LED + Button battery lights.
I’m quite happy with them. My only concern is charging them so they are always ready to use at night.
This also means I need yet another multiport USB charger to charge more USB devices.
