Wipro Technologies announces Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11a MAC and Baseband IPs
April 12, 2005, Bangalore: Wipro Technologies today announced that it has obtained Wi-Fi certification for its 802.11a suite of Wireless LAN IPs. Wipro is the first Indian company to obtain Wi-Fi certification.
“We are pleased that Wipro has become the first Indian company to obtain Wi-Fi certification. We welcome participation in our program from leading Indian companies like Wipro in helping expand the market for Wi-Fi in India and beyond" says Frank Hanzlik, Managing Director of Wi-Fi Alliance.
Wipro has obtained this certification on FireFly™ platform: their proprietary Wireless LAN System validation board. This perhaps makes Wipro the first Wireless LAN IP company to get Wi-Fi certification on its own platform.
According to A.Vasudevan, Vice President, Embedded and Product Engineering, Wipro: “This move is significant since the Certification and thorough system testing done on our IPs gives a robust solution for Wireless LAN system development . Further this also ensures that systems containing Wipro’s IPs will easily interoperate with off-the-shelf Wireless LAN solutions and help to crash the time to market for next generation SOCs ”.
Wipro’s IEEE 802.11 suite of IPs is unique because they can be used both as Devices as well as Access Points. They support voice and high throughput applications, come with advanced QoS and security features as per IEEE standards and Wi-Fi specifications.
