Silicon & Software Systems (S3) honored as a key contributor to Award Winning Medical Product Design
Dublin, Ireland, April 12th, 2005 – Silicon & Software Systems (S3) today announced that it has been honored in the 2005 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) for its significant contribution to the Motiva™ TV-based interactive healthcare platform being developed by Philips Medical Systems. Motiva is designed to deliver remote patient management and personalized education through the home television. Motiva uses broadband technology, combined with vital sign measurement devices, to connect patients to their healthcare providers and medical support team. It is designed to improve quality of life, while reducing medical costs, for patients with chronic diseases such as congestive heart failure and diabetes.
S3 was responsible for the design, implementation and verification of the Clinical Application Software used in the Motiva platform. This software enables healthcare providers to review patient measurement trends and to assess patients' adherence to their care plan. One of the more significant design challenges was to create a balance between providing a high degree of usability and efficiency for the clinical staff, while at the same time providing the patient with a sense that there is an actual caregiver monitoring their health rather than simply an intelligent IT system.
"Working with market leaders such as Philips Medical Systems enables us to apply our unique design expertise and methodologies to the very latest medical solutions," said Pieter Six, S3's Medical Systems Business Unit Manager. "We are delighted that our design work has received international recognition in this premier awards program for the medical technology community."
