IDT Selects Rambus PCI Express Serial Interfaces For Its Family Of Bridging And Switching Solutions
Rambus chosen for its ability to enable quality solutions at an accelerated time to market
Los Altos, CA - April 20, 2005 – Rambus Inc. (Nasdaq:RMBS), one of the world's premier technology licensing companies specializing in high-speed chip interfaces, today announced that IDT™(Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, has licensed Rambus's PCI Express* serial link interface PHYs for its PRECISE switching and bridging solutions optimized for server and storage applications.
"Nearly twelve months ago, we announced our entry into the PCI Express marketplace," said Mario Montana, director of marketing for the serial-switching division at IDT. "Licensing Rambus's proven serial I/O IP enabled us to focus on other core design issues, while leveraging their off-the-shelf solution to accelerate the introduction of our family of PCI Express products. We are pleased to have collaborated with Rambus for this first family of PCI Express products, and as a result, look forward to satisfying our customers' stringent performance and time-to-market requirements."
A member of the Rambus RaSer™ serial link interface family, the Rambus PCI Express serial interface is a complete serial communication cell optimized for implementing the physical layer of the PCI Express standard. The silicon-proven serial interfaces feature point-to-point, full duplex signaling and support up to a 3.2Gbps data rate. The PHYs are shipping on multiple foundry and captive processes and are available at process nodes ranging from 180nm to 65nm. Rambus has also demonstrated its Turbo PCI Express platform with serial links operating at 5.0Gbps and 6.25Gbps data rates to meet future PCI Express requirements.
"IDT has an aggressive plan to offer a family of PCI Express-based bridging and switching products," said Jean-Marc Patenaude, director of marketing at Rambus. "Rambus's extensive experience in the development of high volume, high speed I/Os and our comprehensive suite of support services help IDT to provide optimized system solutions to its customers."
The Rambus RaSer family of serial link interfaces offers designers scalable serial link architectures proven in volume production and is optimized to address current and future serial link systems applications requiring the highest bandwidth and channel count on a single chip. The RaSer serial link interfaces have been implemented across a variety of computing, consumer and communication systems, including networking switch backplanes, Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, numerous PCI Express applications, 1/2/4 Gbps Fibre Channel systems, other fiber-optic network interfaces, as well as several custom high-speed chip interface applications. The RaSer cells are delivered with a complete set of design and integration tools for layout, verification, signal integrity and timing analysis. Rambus also provides consulting services for integration of the cell in the customer's silicon. System level consulting services are also available to address all aspects of signal and system integrity.
