Pioneer Selects TransDimension's Complete USB Solution to Enable a New Trend in DVD Recorders
Innovative Japanese Consumer Electronics Firm Integrates the TD243 USB Controller into the New DVR 555H-S DVD Recorder
IRVINE, Calif., May 10, 2005 - TransDimension, the leader in USB connectivity solutions for embedded applications, today announced the integration of TransDimension's TD243 USB host, peripheral and OTG controller in Pioneer’s new DVR- 555H-S DVD recorder with HDD in the Japanese market. The Pioneer DVR- 555H-S is the market’s first DVD recorder with HDD that supports both USB Host and Peripheral functions and boasts a 250GB built-in hard disk drive (HDD).
“We see Pioneer as leading the trend in DVD recorder technology and are excited to be part of this innovation,” stated Paul Liu, marketing director for TransDimension. “Up until now, DVD recorders have only been connected to PCs or to networks, and almost always by Ethernet. Pioneer is setting a new direction by launching a product that allows consumers to connect DVD recorders directly to a much wider array of devices including digital video recorders, digital still cameras, and printers.”
Liu added, “For consumers, this will dramatically simplify the process of transferring and backing-up information. Now they can eliminate the need to connect first to a PC, which will save them time and improve their experience with Pioneer’s products. We are pleased that Pioneer chose TransDimension’s complete USB connectivity solution to enable them to be first to market with this USB functionality in their DVD recorders.”
TransDimension’s TD243 is the market’s only high performance, 32-bit host, peripheral and OTG single-chip controller and is ideally suited for these consumer applications. The two dedicated host ports of the TD243 controller can be used as internal or external connections to other USB peripherals or peripheral controllers. At the same time, the other port may be used as a host, a peripheral or an OTG port, enabling many applications for embedded USB systems, including DVD recorders, CD -RW products, Set-Top-Boxes, PDAs and printers.
TransDimension offers extensive IC solutions including its latest device offerings: the TD1120, the first single-chip USB OTG high-speed peripheral and full-speed host controller; and the TD6100, the market’s first USB full-speed OTG transceiver with an integrated high current charge pump. TransDimension also provides high performance Hi-Speed USB OTG IP core solutions that are currently used by several leading companies. In addition, TDI has extensive embedded software development expertise that supports various operating systems providing seamless functionality in consumer, mobile and PC peripheral applications.
