SafeNet SafeXcel IP Powers Next-Generation AMCC Chips for Secure Network Processing
BALTIMORE, Maryland, May 18, 2005 - SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: SFNT), setting the standard for information security, today announced that Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) [NASDAQ:AMCC] has licensed SafeNet's SafeXcel IP cores to enable secure communications in their next generation PowerPC processors for networking and pervasive applications.
"In today's world, protecting data of all types across various network environments is no longer just an option – it’s a must. The integration of SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Packet Engine into our high-performance processors allows AMCC customers to address the growing security, cost, and performance requirements of today's demanding applications," adds Sam Fuller, AMCC's vice president of marketing, Embedded Products.
The security block in AMCC's PowerPC architecture based 440EPx and 440GRx processors is provided by SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Packet Engine—a silicon-proven cryptographic accelerator for Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), Secure Socket Layer (SSL), Transport Layer Security (TLS), and Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP). The SafeXcel IP Packet Engine is designed to meet the needs of semiconductor manufacturers, featuring versatility, ease of integration, and high performance.
"With the trend toward integration of multiple security functions into a single chip, our packet engine is a perfect fit for AMCC's latest PowerPC processors," said Henk Pruim, vice president and general manager of SafeNet's Networking Business Unit. "SafeNet's QuickSec VPN software will provide a quick, easy-to-use development environment for users of AMCC's 440EPx and 440GRx devices."
SafeNet's QuickSec security software makes it easy for OEMs to rapidly build powerful integrated security appliances. AMCC provides evaluation versions of the QuickSec software as part of the AMCC SDK.
