Quickturn and Xilinx Partner to Expand Support for SOC Design Verification and Design Reuse
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2000-- Quickturn, a company of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN), and Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX) today announced an expanded partnership that makes Xilinx® Virtex(TM) FPGAs available to designers using the Quickturn Rapid Prototyping System (RPS(TM)) solution. In addition, Quickturn RPS customers can license the portfolio of standard and advanced function Virtex intellectual property (IP) cores from Xilinx. Electronics designers who use Xilinx Foundation(TM), Alliance Series(TM), Foundation ISE development systems, or other FPGA software tools can now leverage the Quickturn RPS solution.
``We are expanding our relationship with Quickturn to deliver the flexibility and capacity of Xilinx FPGAs and IP cores to electronics companies worldwide,'' said Babak Hedayati, director of IP solutions marketing at Xilinx. ``In the prototyping design process, we believe that ASIC designers using Quickturn's RPS will discover, in many cases, that their design criteria will have already been met using the combination of Xilinx Smart-IP cores and Virtex FPGAs in the Quickturn RPS solution, thereby justifying an FPGA implementation.''
``This partnership combines the highest density and fastest FPGA technology with the world's highest capacity, re-configurable rapid prototyping system,'' said George Zafiropoulos, vice president of marketing at Quickturn. ``Used together, designers can maximize their design capacity, increase their verification performance, and optimize their debug capability of system-on-a-chip (SOC) designs. Direct access to a fully verified portfolio of IP and cutting edge FPGA technology provides a new level of flexibility and productivity to SOC designers using RPS. Designers can download their IP of choice from the Xilinx Web site and integrate it with the rest of their design using Virtex FPGAs with RPS. In addition, by using Xilinx FPGAs, customers will benefit from the increased capacity, performance, and debug capabilities.''
Electronics designers can utilize the Quickturn RPS solution by using any Virtex FPGA with the RPS CoreBoards(TM). By using FPGAs in RPS, users can easily expand the system's capacity and performance as Xilinx FPGAs continue to increase in capacity and speed. Also, integration with Xilinx and other commercial FPGA software tools provide an excellent on-chip debug environment with RPS.
The Quickturn RPS modular architecture is ideal for SOC designs that contain multiple IP cores and software content. Through this partnership, Quickturn supports commonly used cores from the Xilinx LogiCORE(TM) program with the Quickturn RPS solution, which is quickly becoming a standard form factor for IP reuse and which facilitates software integration and system verification.
``The partnership between Quickturn and Xilinx is an important step towards making it easier to adopt what I believe will soon be the dominant DSM design methodology: platform-based design,'' said Dr. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, The Edgar L. and Harold H. Buttner Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley, and chief technical advisor at Cadence. ``The availability of reusable IP for high-density Xilinx FPGAs will jump-start the IP integration process, the essential component of platform-based design. Furthermore, the standard form factor of RPS CoreBoards puts these IP components to immediate use in the context of a system.''
Product Availability
The RPS solution and CoreBoards may be purchased through Quickturn. The CoreBoards are compatible with Windows NT software and are available for UNIX-based workstations from Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems.
