Xilinx Widens Process Technology Leadership - Ships More Than 3.5 Million 90nm FPGAs
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 3, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced it has shipped more than 3.5 million 90nm devices - generating three times more 90nm revenue than its nearest competitor. Xilinx leads the PLD industry by more than two years in 90nm chip making technology and has leveraged its expertise to deliver four 90nm FPGA families - the Virtex-4, Spartan-3E, Spartan-3L and Spartan-3 families. Today's milestone underscores the company's commitment to leverage advance process technologies to satisfy customer demand for increasingly low cost, high performance devices. Xilinx credits its 90nm success in part to its multi-foundry strategy with manufacturing partners UMC and Toshiba Corporation.
"The 90nm node is mainstream for Xilinx. While other semiconductor vendors are just starting to evaluate 90nm technology, Xilinx has been delivering 90nm silicon to customers for over two years," said Rich Sevcik, senior vice president and general manager of the FPGA Products Group at Xilinx. "By aggressively moving down the process technology curve, we have been able to refine the node to overcome industry challenges like increased static power consumption and signal integrity to ultimately deliver the world's lowest cost and highest performance FPGAs."
Platform Features for Low Cost, High Volume Applications
In 1998, Xilinx ignited the low cost FPGA revolution with the introduction of the Spartan Series. Today, Spartan Series FPGAs are broadly adopted in high-volume, consumer applications, with over 100 million units shipped and $1 billion in cumulative revenue. With the March, 2005 introduction of it's Spartan-3E family , Xilinx continues to add new market-specific features to its low cost Spartan Series while reducing the cost by 30X since its introduction, offering 1000 logic cells for as little as $0.46*.
