sci-worx presents its newest IP products at the electronica 2000 - DesignObjects® for System-on-Chip
Munich/Hanover, 21 November 2000 - Sci-worx is presenting its newest intellectual property (IP) products at the electronica 2000 trade fair - modules for system-on-chip (SoC) developments marketed as DesignObjects® . The company, based in Hanover, has made a name for itself in the last few years as an SoC integrator and IP provider. Sci-worx is the worldwide number 1 in the MPEG and SDH/SONET market segment.
Producing SoC for highly complex systems presents products developers with continuously increasing challenges. More and more complex systems need to be realized in architecture and integrated on silicon. New semiconductor technologies with smaller and smaller structural directions, and the higher integration possibilities related to this, enable the production of more demanding products. In view of the existing lack of engineering staff, and the fact that products cycles are becoming shorter and shorter, the developer team is faced with an almost unsolvable task: the so-called "design gap" is continuously increasing, and technologically feasible product ideas are falling through due to lack of resources.
The Hanover-based microelectronics works has now taken up the cause of closing this gap. DesignObjects® are playing a key role in this. Pre-fabricated and qualified key modules for SoC developments, compatible to the relevant standards, are helping the development departments at system and semiconductor manufacturers to achieve their design and marketing aims. Time to market, the key to success, is now available to Sci-worx' customers thanks to licensing of a DesignObjects® tied to a complete packet - simple to use and in excellent quality.
sci-worx' strategy for DesignObjects® (DO) is characterized by an agreement phase with the customer. If the customer decides to purchase a DesignObjects® from sci-worx, he will be accompanied through the entire design cycle: from technical consultancy for selection of the appropriate DOs, through advice about system integration - both for hardware and software - right up to support during the design end process. Sci-worx develops, qualifies and validates all DesignObjects® itself.
USB2.0
The USB2.0 DesignObjects® realizes a link controller for a USB2.0 devices with transmission speeds of 480 Mbit/s, 12Mbit/s and 1.5 Mbit/s. A integrated specialized USB controller performs the handling of higher bus protocols to simplify system software development for USB functionality. With its ARM AMBA? AHB compliant interface and low power design the USB2.0_F+ DesignObject® is dedicated for high performance USB2.0-Applications.
FEC10G_709
Designed for the fast growing market of broad band fiber-optic transmission systems, this DesignObjects® contains all functions required on the transmitter and receiver side of an error protected transmission system in accordance with ITU-T G.709. The FEC_10G_709 supports transmission ratessuch as OTU2 for an optical transmission network (10 Gbit/s) and is able to work with an internal frequency of about 84 MHz and 8 bit in parallel (622/666 Mbit/s).
Transport System Decoder
The Transport System Decoder DesignObjects® decodes MPEG2 Transport Systems according to the standard for MPEG-2 systems (ISO/IEC 13818-1). Main applications are Set Top Boxes and Home Gateways which integrate multimedia and data-information services in one device. Because of the strong functional relationship between the Transport Demultiplexer and the System Decoder in an MPEG-2 System, the two modules are integrated into one block.
AAL2 CPS
The AAL2 CPS Framer DesignObject® provides services for delay sensitive applications requiring bandwidth-efficient transmission of low-rate, short, and variable length packets. It enables the mapping of service specific data streams into several virtual AAL 2 connections according to the ITU-T recommendation I.363.2. These AAL 2 connections are established over programmable ATM connections determined by VCI/VPI. The ATM cells are transmitted through the ATM Utopia Level 2 interface.
Terminal Multiplexer SDH/SONET
Applications are DWDM Systems, SDH/SONET terminal multiplexer and SDH/SONET line regenerator. The module implements termination of regenerator and multiplex section overhead for both transmit and receive path. Flexible configuration, alarm indication, performance monitoring and diagnostics are provided via the processor interface. Versions for STM- 1/OC-3,STM-4/OC-12,STM-16/OC-48 and STM-64/OC-192 are available. The module is compliant to international standard ITU-T.
Turbo Decoder incl. Interleaver
The Turbo_Dec_Int DesignObjects® is a device for efficient forward error correction in data transmission. It is built for channel coding in mobile communication systems. As specified by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Program) it is based on a block oriented turbo code. The turbo decoder DesignObject? core is designed for block length from 40 up to 5114 payload bits and can process 4 MBits/s payload with a 60 MHz system clock.About sci-worx
Hanover-based Sci-worx GmbH took over the most important commercial activities of the Sican GmbH, also based in Hanover, on the 1st October 2000. sci-worx develops and markets System-on-Chip solutions for secure applications in mobile and cable-based communication. Shareholders in the design company, now acting freely on the market, are the RBK - Regionale Beteiligungsgesellschaft der Kreissparkasse Hannover mbH & Co. KG with 15.1%, and the TÜV Süddeutschland Holding AG with 10%, in addition to Infineon Technologies AG. The design company is striving for above-average growth with its dedicated staff team, the most modern design methods, highly optimized key technologies and a validation program which guarantees high quality and performance.
