D2 Technologies to Provide Optimized VoIP Algorithms for New High-Performance MIPS32®24KE Cores
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 13, 2005 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), today announced that D2 Technologies has signed a development agreement to implement key VoIP algorithms for the MIPS32® 24KE™ cores. This agreement will enable MIPS Technologies to build significantly on its existing VoIP software Ecosystem and allow D2 to expand its current software portfolio.
Introduced in May 2005, the MIPS32 24KE family of cores is the first to integrate the MIPS® DSP Application-Specific Extension (ASE) announced last year. The 24KE core family leverages the high performance 24K™ microarchitecture and efficiently adds DSP functionality while significantly reducing overall SoC die area, cost, and power consumption.
D2 recently announced vPort, a complete Voice over IP (VoIP) software solution for RISC-based SoCs. Voice processing algorithms, which traditionally ran on a separate DSP chip, have been implemented in software, as a "soft DSP," so that networking, signaling and voice processing functions all execute on a single RISC processor as an integrated solution.
Initial applications for vPort include cost-sensitive products such as Analog Telephone Adaptors (ATA), residential voice gateways, IP/Ethernet/WiFi phones and other VoIP-enabled products.
"We're delighted to be working with D2," said Russ Bell, VP of marketing for MIPS Technologies. "The combination of D2's VoIP software solution and the performance and functionality of our 24KE processor cores gives semiconductor companies and OEMs a real advantage in being able to reduce costs and accelerate their time to market."
"This is an exciting development for both companies," said David Wong, president of D2 Technologies Inc. "The cost-sensitive, rapidly evolving VoIP market offers significant growth opportunities, and we believe that our customers will benefit greatly from high-performance, single-processor MIPS-Based VoIP solutions."
