Talijon Engineering Chooses LatticeEC FPGA to Replace Obsolete ASIC
HILLSBORO, OR - JULY 28, 2005 - Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced that design services firm Talijon Engineering has chosen to use the low cost, high performance LatticeEC™ FPGA in a design that replaces an obsolete ASIC-based TDMA board for satellite communications.
"Our customer needed a design solution that would replace the obsolete ASIC," said Len Shimoon, one of three founders of Talijon. "It didn't make economic sense to design a new ASIC, so an FPGA-based adapter board was a viable alternative. After evaluating several devices from various vendors, the clear choice was the LatticeEC FPGA. Its very attractive price/performance ratio and standard SPI flash capability for configuration were key factors in making the decision. Also, 130 nm technology was an important factor, for the device drive strength and slew rates compared to 90nm technology. The fact that we could use an off-the-shelf product with excellent support was a bonus. Lattice's representatives were very responsive and added considerable value during our evaluation process," Shimoon concluded.
Stan Kopec, Lattice vice president of corporate marketing, said, "Our LatticeEC and LatticeECP™ FPGAs have been designed from the ground up to deliver high performance and exceptional features at low cost. Our LatticeEC family, with 7 devices ranging in density from 1.5K to 33K LUTs, is being used in designs around the world. Sophisticated customers like Talijon are finding the LatticeEC FPGA is an optimized price performance package."
About the LatticeECP-DSP™ and LatticeEC FPGA Families
The LatticeECP-DSP™ and LatticeEC FPGA device families are architected to provide the most optimized feature sets combined with the lowest total solution costs of any FPGAs. The new LatticeECP-DSP products, targeted for high-performance DSP applications, provide up to a 50% performance and 75% logic utilization improvement over other low cost solutions when implementing common DSP functions. The LatticeEC FPGA product family, targeted for general-purpose FPGA applications, is a precise and targeted response to the market's explosive demand for low cost, architecturally streamlined logic solutions. Through advanced 130nm silicon technology, an optimized architecture and proprietary circuit design, the new Lattice devices lower total solution costs by up to 30% to 50% compared with existing FPGA solutions, and are expected to broaden the adoption of FPGAs within the $20 billion ASIC marketplace.
