Falanx Microsystems and Zoran Deliver Advanced Graphics and 3D Gaming to Multimedia Mobile Phones
"Our experience with Falanx and the Mali graphics acceleration core has provided the high performance and low power requirements needed to be competitive in the mobile space," said Coby Sella, vice president, general manager at Zoran's Mobile division. "Falanx provides a complete software and hardware solution for this market."
Zoran provides advanced mobile phone co-processor technologies in reference platforms designed to enable OEM manufacturers to quickly bring new products to market that enable camera applications, 3D gaming, surround sound audio, video capture and streaming of television content to the mobile phone handset. Zoran's solutions have been selected to power multiple different handset models from major multimedia phone vendors, many of which will be coming to market later this year.
"It is significant for us that Zoran has chosen to work with Falanx and our Mali graphics acceleration cores for a second generation product," said Borgar Ljosland, president and CEO of Falanx. "Zoran has continued to raise the bar on its co-processor design, and the continuation of this relationship signifies the flexibility of the Mali architecture to meet the performance and quality requirements of each unique application."
In order for mobile gaming to take the next leap, graphics acceleration providers must work closely with SoC integrators and game developers to evangelize the technology and clearly communicate what gaming on a mobile platform provides to consumers. Falanx will update the game development community on the newest mobile gaming requirements and the benefits of market- changing technologies such as OpenGL ES.
