Condor Engineering Introduces FlightCORE-1553
New product simplifies integration of Condor's advanced 1553 intellectual property in latest Xilinx and Altera FPGAs
Santa Barbara, CA – August 16, 2005 -- Condor Engineering, a leading provider of military and commercial avionics databus solutions, today announced FlightCORE-1553, a unique solution designed to make it much simpler for avionics engineers to implement advanced 1553 functionality into a broad range of Xilinx and Altera Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). FlightCORE-1553 is a full-featured, multi-function implementation of Condor Engineering's proven CORE-1553 protocol engine technology.
FlightCORE-1553 offers a rich set of protocol processing functions and is the industry's only multi-function, simultaneous BC, single RT and Monitor MIL-STD-1553 IP for embedded designs. FlightCORE-1553 has been independently validated in accordance with the RT Validation Test Plan (MIL-HDBK-1553 Appendix A).
"Condor believes that in the long run, ASIC architectures are more costly and risky when compared with FPGA designs. That's why we are offering our full-featured 1553 protocol engine in a design-friendly kit for popular, off-the-shelf FPGA platforms," stated Bill Schuh, Military Products Manager at Condor Engineering. "In addition to offering significant cost and flexibility benefits, our new FlightCORE-1553 product also offers an industry-first multi-function capability that enables engineers to simulate many more inputs while in prototype stage and thus get their products to market faster."
The FlightCORE-1553 Get Started Kit includes Condor's RT Validated intellectual property, example builds & BOM, flexible API software, schematics and a micro-sized Personality Module to ensure rapid development. Unlike other downloadable cores, FlightCORE-1553 is provided royalty-free. After connection to an external transceiver, all 1553 protocol decoding/encoding, message processing, time stamping and message buffering is provided by FlightCORE-1553.
Condor took the lead years ago with its CORE strategy. FPGA core-based implementations have become increasingly popular in recent years because they offer improved parts obsolescence management, design risk mitigation, integration flexibility, reduced footprint, low power consumption and high MTBF when compared with sole-source, specialized protocol ASICs and processors. A fundamental design feature of Condor's CORE-1553 is that it can easily be migrated to new FPGA designs as they become available while maintaining complete functional compatibility.
Pricing and Availability
FlightCORE-1553 is available for immediate delivery and is sold under a simple software license that does not require a royalty fee. Pricing starts at $225.
