Xilinx Ships 5 Millionth 90nm Device
SAN JOSE , Calif. , August 16, 2005 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that the company is supplying more than 70 percent of the world’s 90nm field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), based upon cumulative revenues, and has shipped more than five million 90nm units to date. As the world’s leading programmable solutions supplier with 57 percent market segment share for FPGAs, Xilinx commands more than a two-year lead in 90nm manufacturing and is shipping a total of four 90nm FPGA families – Virtex™-4, Spartan™-3E, Spartan-3L and Spartan-3.
Today’s news underscores the company’s commitment to lead the programmable logic industry in adoption of the world’s most advanced chip-making processes to meet customer demand for increasingly low cost, high performance programmable chips. X ilinx success at 90nm continues to be fueled by broad adoption of its flagship Spartan-3 product family, which nearly doubled in the most recent quarter. Based upon cumulative revenues through the company’s most recent quarter, consumer and automotive – two of the fastest growing markets for programmable chips – make up more than 14 percent of Xilinx sales.
“With more than a 2X delta in revenues over our nearest competitor and more than 5M in device shipments, 90nm has become mainstream for Xilinx,” said Sandeep Vij, vice president of worldwide marketing at Xilinx. “By aggressively moving down the process technology curve with each generation, Xilinx continues to deliver the world’s lowest cost and highest performance FPGAs to customers. Our multi-foundry strategy and partnership with UMC and Toshiba Corporation is a key to our success at 90nm.”
Xilinx Virtex-II Pro World’s Most Popular 130nm FPGA
In addition to 90nm, Xilinx remains at the forefront of the industry in130nm FPGA adoption. Based upon results from the most recent quarter, Virtex-II Pro family sales are 30 percent larger than any other 130nm FPGA.
“While other 130nm FPGAs have peaked and declined in revenues,” added Vij, “the Virtex-II Pro family continues on a steady ramp, with record revenues resulting from multi-generational, system-level architectural wins. Customer adoption has been spurred by robust system-level features, including high-speed DSP, integrated IBM PowerPC™ processor cores and multi gigabit serial transceivers.”
To date, Xilinx has shipped more than 8X the number of platform FPGAs with embedded hard processors or multi-gigabit serial transceivers than any other PLD vendor.
About Xilinx Spartan-3 Series FPGAs
In 1998, Xilinx ignited the low cost FPGA revolution with the introduction of the Spartan Series. Today, Spartan Series FPGAs are broadly adopted in high-volume, consumer applications, with over 128 million units shipped and $1.2B in cumulative revenue. With the March, 2005 introduction of its Spartan-3E family, Xilinx continues to add new market-specific features to its low cost Spartan Series while reducing the cost by 30X since its introduction, offering 1000 logic cells for as little as $0.46*.
