STG Licenses Sensicast MAC & OS in Support of its ZigBee- Compliant Stack
Software Solutions Provider will base ZigBee offerings on Sensicast’s MAC Layer
NEEDHAM, MA and CHICAGO, IL – September 12, 2005 – Sensicast Systems, provider of wireless sensor networking products and solutions, today announced that Software Technologies Group (STG) has licensed Sensicast’s MAC layer and operating system for use as a core software component of STG’s suite of ZigBee and embedded wireless network software offerings. The licensing agreement was announced at the ZigBee Alliance Open House in Chicago.
STG will offer the Sensicast IEEE 802.15.4 MAC layer and Sensicast Operating System as part of a suite of software they provide to OEMs for developing embedded wireless hardware and solutions. The agreement provides STG with a customer-proven MAC and embedded operating system platform upon which to build an innovative ZigBee standard networking stack. STG will offer the MAC and operating system to their clients immediately.
“By offering the Sensicast MAC and associated Sensicast Operating System, we're building on a proven industry platform which has demonstrated that it is robust and reliable,” said Chris Herzog, president of STG. “By adding this to our ZigBee offerings, our customers have a complete solution for implementing ZigBee connectivity on their hardware devices starting right from the core hardware.”
“It is reflective of the hard work of our engineering team that STG has selected our software platform as the basis for their ZigBee offerings,” said Paul Sereiko, CEO of Sensicast. “For difficult industrial environments where reliability is vital, we offer our proven, ultra-reliable SensiNet™ protocol. Other less critical applications in friendlier environments could be ideal for solutions that employ the ZigBee networking protocol. We look forward to the availability of the STG ZigBee stack that will be operational with Sensicast’s Modular Interchangeable Networking Device (MIND) Platform™ and can be offered to those customers that are willing to accept performance sacrifices for interoperability.”
The Sensicast MIND Platform enables the development of the most flexible wireless mesh networks in the shortest amount of time. The MIND platform™ helps sensor developers select among a combination of frequencies, sensors, applications, and networking protocols. These choices can be made following a single sensor development effort, enabling OEMs to create, develop, and market multiple solutions simultaneously. The STG ZigBee stack will add standards-based support to Sensicast’s MIND Platform.
The ZigBee Alliance is an association of more than 175 companies working together to enable wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. ZigBee is the only standards-based technology designed to address the unique needs of low-cost, low-power, wireless sensor networks for remote monitoring, home control, asset management, and building automation network applications.
Sensicast’s partners have developed products using the MIND platform for a variety of temperature monitoring applications in the industrial, medical and food industries, as well as analog input nodes for use in building and industrial automation. All products developed with the MIND Platform are fully supported by Sensicast’s SensiMesh® Gateway Software. The SensiMesh Software provides for superior network monitoring and management functions, regardless of the underlying wireless mesh networking protocol deployed. Additionally, SensiMesh provides for the easiest way to integrate with existing automation systems through standard, well-known interfaces.
