Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Supports ARM9-based Atmel AT91RM9200 for Secure Data Storage and Connected Communication Applications
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, Boston, Mass., Sept.14, 2005 -Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced the availability of the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) for the Atmel AT91RM9200 microcontroller. The combination provides developers with a comprehensive, high-performance integrated solution with which to develop such applications as telematics systems (which connect global positioning system (GPS) receivers with general packet radio service (GPRS), industrial automation, medical systems and point-of-sales terminals.
"Increasingly embedded systems are networked together using Ethernet," said Jacko Wilbrink, Atmel's ARM® marketing manager. "The AT91RM9200 together with the Nucleus RTOS and the Nucleus middleware products provides all the processing resources to support communications protocols securely, while offering real-time features required in real-time systems."
Atmel's ARM-based AT91RM9200 microcontroller is a high-performance, system-on-chip (SoC) offering a flexible configuration of on- and off-chip memories together with an extensive set of peripherals for control, communication and data storage purposes.
Alongside the Nucleus RTOS software is a wealth of middleware products for building data storage, connectivity, communication, and security applications. The Nucleus FILE file management software provides standard-compliant and secure file systems along with device drivers such as CompactFlash and Secure Digital/Multimedia Card (SD/MMC), which is useful for developers building data storage applications. For connectivity applications, the Nucleus USB products enable developers to leverage existing or create new USB devices. The Nucleus USB software includes a series of class driver components that implement functions like mass storage, printing, human interface, communication and more, which allow developers to quickly incorporate USB into their systems with little programming effort.
For secure communication applications, the Nucleus NET networking products come with a standard set of TCP/IP networking protocols and drivers. To meet the security needs of today's embedded solutions, the Nucleus NET stack also offers Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) protocols that enable embedded applications to securely communicate with other hosts on the Internet. For wireless connectivity, the Nucleus 802.11 STA software that supports 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g standards to enable the device to roam easily and stay connected to the network.
The Nucleus EDGE environment, based on the Eclipse platform, provides a suite of plug-ins to Eclipse. Atmel developers now have access to profiling software, compiler tools, debugging software and a UML suite-all within one easy-to-use environment.
"The feature-rich, high performance Atmel AT91RM9200 processor is poised to become a very popular ARM9-based device for building secure data storage and communication with connectivity applications," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "Our integrated Nucleus middleware software products and drivers are ready to support developers using this device to help them achieve quick product turnaround time."
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for the Nucleus software begin at $12,495. For more information, please contact Accelerated Technology at 800-468-6853 or info@acceleratedtechnology.com.
