Hantro Strengthens Codec Portfolio with Microsoft's VC-1 Decoder
Oulu, Finland - September 19, 2005 - Support for Microsoft’s VC-1 codec grows as it enters the final stages of acceptance as an open standard. Hantro, the leading provider of multimedia solutions for mobile devices has today announced that they will be integrating VC-1 decode support in to their video codec portfolio.
VC-1, which is implemented by Microsoft as WMV9, has an exceptionally strong position within the PC desktop world making it compelling to use for delivering content over the internet; this content will inevitably find its way into the mobile arena. Along with H.264/AVC, VC-1 will also play a significant role in mobile TV.
“Adding VC-1 is a natural step for us” says Eero Kaikkonen, President and CEO at Hantro “As a consumer I want to watch video on my mobile handset; I don’t want to be concerned over which format it is and whether my handset supports it. As mobile internet access speeds increase and alternative connectivity options become commonplace, the availability of VC-1 and Windows Media Video 9 formatted content will become extremely significant.”
