Global Unichip Collaborates With Cadence and Kilopass to Deliver Innovative Consumer Entertainment Designs
Update: Synopsys Expands DesignWare IP Portfolio with Acquisition of Kilopass Technology (Jan. 10, 2018)
SAN JOSE, CA -- Sept. 21, 2005 -- Global Unichip Corp. (GUC), a full-service SoC design foundry and TSMC partner, today announced that the company has selected solutions from Cadence Design Systems, Inc. and Kilopass for various chip designs. GUC has adopted Kilopass' XPM non-volatile memory (NVM) technology for a mixed-signal consumer entertainment design. These XPM non-volatile memory IP cores are developed by Kilopass using the Virtuoso custom design platform from Cadence. Virtuoso has been used successfully by GUC for various SoC chip designs. Through membership in the Cadence OpenChoice IP program, Kilopass validated its IP integration with Virtuoso prior to GUC's adoption.
GUC uses Kilopass' embedded XPM technology to add a secure ID feature to its consumer electronics design, which is being implemented in silicon at the world's leading pure-play foundry. XPM provides GUC with a low-cost, on-chip, highly secure capability for the company's ICs.
"As a leading SoC design foundry, we need IP and design software partners that understand the short development time requirements of SoC chips," said Jim Lai, President of Global Unichip Corp. "We chose Kilopass' non-volatile memory technology for our chip designs because this important memory IP fulfilled a critical requirement of our customers' applications. We are pleased to know that this IP has been validated by Kilopass and Cadence with the Virtuoso technology, which our company uses in various design projects."
"Cadence's leadership in collaboration throughout the design chain is fueled by our commitment to customer success," said Jan Willis, senior vice president of Industry Alliances at Cadence. "We're delighted to see OpenChoice partners like Kilopass succeed with us in delighting customers like GUC."
"GUC is one of our worldwide design-service partners," remarked Charles Ng, VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Kilopass Technology. "Their support and expertise is helping to accelerate the adoption of XPM technology into designs created for standard CMOS high-volume and security-conscious applications. We are also pleased with the capability that the Cadence products and OpenChoice partnership bring to our development and validation environment for our complex non-volatile memory technology."
About OpenChoice
The Cadence OpenChoice IP program enables interoperability and facilitates open collaboration with IP providers to build, validate, and deliver intellectual property optimized for Cadence design and verification solutions. The program aims to ensure IP quality and provide the semiconductor industry with access to optimized IP through a complete IP catalog. This optimizes the electronics design chain and accelerates customer time to market.
About XPM
Kilopass' silicon-proven, XPM memory technology, offers the benefits of post-manufacturing programming of non-volatile memory implemented in standard-logic CMOS processes, including 0.18um, 0.13um, and 90nm.
