Synopsys and Realtek Collaborate to Provide Interoperable IP Solution for Certified Wireless USB Technology
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and HSIN CHU, Taiwan -- Sept. 26, 2005 -- Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS - News), a world leader in semiconductor design software, and Realtek Semiconductor Corp. (TSE: 2379 - News), one of the world's largest IC design houses, today announced that the two companies are working together to conduct interoperability testing using Synopsys' DesignWare® Cores Wireless Universal Serial Bus (WiUSB) device controller IP, based on Certified Wireless USB specification from the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), and Realtek's single-chip WiMedia(TM) Ultra-wideband (UWB) physical layer (PHY). Interoperability testing between the two products reduces risk and speeds time to market for the growing number of system OEMs who want to integrate Certified Wireless USB into their next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
"We selected Synopsys as a strategic partner for Certified Wireless USB development because of their leadership position in wired USB," said Ran Yan, senior vice president, Wireless Communications Technologies at Realtek. "Interoperability testing the Realtek WiMedia PHY with the Synopsys WiUSB device controller helps ensure our products work seamlessly in our customers' designs and enables accelerated development of complete Certified Wireless USB solutions."
"Achieving interoperability in silicon is a vital step towards lowering risk and ensuring chip success for our customers," said Guri Stark, vice president of Marketing, Synopsys' Solutions Group. "Our collaboration with Realtek demonstrates that designers will be able to integrate high quality, Wireless USB IP into their next generation products."
Availability
The Synopsys DesignWare Core WiUSB device controller is available now for early adopters. General availability is expected in early 2006. The Realtek single-chip PHY is expected to be available in Q4 2005.
About Synopsys DesignWare Cores
Synopsys DesignWare Cores provide system designers with silicon-proven, digital and mixed-signal connectivity IP for some of the world's most recognized products, including communications processors, routers, switches, game consoles, digital cameras, computers and computer peripherals. Provided as synthesizable RTL source code or in GDSII format, these cores enable designers to create innovative, cost-effective systems-on-chips and embedded systems. Synopsys provides flexible licensing options for the DesignWare Cores. Each core can be licensed individually, on a fee-per-project basis or users can opt for the Volume Purchase Agreement, which enables them to license all the cores in one simple agreement.
