Sirius and Tality Collaborate On Baseband Solutions For Third-Generation Mobile Phone Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif.----Oct. 17, 2000-- Tality Corporation, a subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) - and Sirius Communications NV - announced today that they will collaborate on turnkey development of third-generation (3G) mobile phone applications.
Under their non-exclusive agreement, Tality will incorporate Sirius' wide-band CDMA baseband core into its 3G design service offering. The two companies aim to accelerate the design cycle for 3G wireless multimedia information devices, such as smart phones and Internet-enabled personal communicators.
The Sirius CDMA baseband solution - dubbed CDMAx(TM) - is a low-power software-configurable intellectual property core for 3G wireless handsets. It is also reconfigurable as a GPS navigation baseband receiver core and as a Satellite UMTS (S-UMTS) transceiver core. Its on-chip ARM7TDMI processor handles reconfiguration control.
``The emerging market for 3G devices is one of Tality's key focus areas. CDMAx, in combination with our proprietary technology, design solutions and expertise enables us to offer customers leading-edge solutions in this critical market,'' said Brent Hudson, vice president and general manager of Tality's Wireless and Multimedia Design Group. ``Sirius' low-power programmable co-processor technology is a powerful solution because it offers customers great flexibility in selecting an implementation path.''
``Tality's strength in baseband and RF design will provide our customers with an accelerated path to market for their next-generation 3G products based on the CDMAx technology,'' stated Kristoffel Mulier, director of sales and marketing for Sirius Communications. ``In collaboration, Tality and Sirius offer 3G handset and chipset manufacturers a complete go-to-market solution''.
Tality also announced today that Sirius has become a member of Tality's SureLink supply-chain partner network. SureLink enables providers in the electronic system and IC supply chains to integrate their offerings with those of Tality, collectively providing superior solutions to mutual customers.
Participants in the SureLink program encompass IC library, IP and IC foundry service providers, and system component and electronic manufacturing service providers. SureLink is the broadest and deepest program of its type in the electronic design-services industry.
