GDA Technologies and Arkados Inc. Collaborate to Deliver Fully Functional HomePlug SoC in Record Time
"Our experienced team had taken Arkados' design and implementation of the powerline networking chip through various stages of Final integration, Verification, Backend Design implementation and supply chain management in record time. GDA's known expertise in SoC Integration and front to back end design services, and established relationships for supply chain management, contributed to the success of this project," explained Ravi Thummarukudy, Vice President and General Manager of IC Solutions. "To accelerate Arkados' SoC development, we successfully utilized our GTAP (GDA Technology Acceleration Platform) and this enabled us to quickly build, verify, and tape out the design in such a short amount of time, which I consider a great achievement."
He further noted that the partnership is a testimonial of how a growing semiconductor company can take advantage of GDA's established capabilities.
Oleg Logvinov, President and CEO of Arkados, a NJ-based company with expertise in Powerline communications and system-on-chip design, said, "We partnered with GDA in getting our product to market more quickly because of their design expertise, commitment and access to various tools and methodologies. By utilizing GDA's expertise, Arkados and GDA finished the tape-out process in a record time of six months."
Mr. Logvinov is the immediate past President of The HomePlug® Powerline Alliance, the industry-led initiative for global powerline communications standards. He continued, "Our partnership with GDA will help roll out highly integrated, lower-cost powerline solutions to market for in-home data networks and for entertainment applications such as digital audio and video."
Based on a worldwide specification from the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, powerline technology uses the power lines already in a home as a path for a high-speed network, allowing digital devices, such as computers and consumer electronics, to connect to each other and to the Internet.
Arkados is a contributing member of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, focused on specific standards initiatives within the Alliance. The Alliance addresses three key technology areas including HomePlug 1.0 + AV (in-home connectivity, including digital home and consumer electronics applications), HomePlug BPL (to-the-home, Broadband-over-Powerline applications), and HomePlug Home Automation (command-and-control applications).
