Mobilic Introduces New Multimedia SoC Processor Family; Mobilic Makes Strong Entry Into the Mobile Video Market With SoC Products That Feature the Industry's Highest Level of Functional Integration
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Dec. 12, 2005 -- Mobilic Technology Corporation, a leading designer of SoC solutions for mobile products, today announced its entry into the mobile video market with the introduction of a new SoC multimedia processor family -- the MP830 and the MP730 Family. Mobilic will host a private suite during the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6-8, 2006, where it will demonstrate its new family of multimedia processors.
Mobilic is focused on targeting high growth mobile video markets with the most cost-effective, feature- rich and highly flexible solutions. Mobilic's goals are to bring solutions to customers with the lowest bill-of-materials and the most applications to allow for product differentiation.
"Mobilic believes market trends will continue to be directed towards mobile information and entertainment applications, and that the personal electronics devices running those applications will need higher levels of functional integration combined with lower power and increased speed and performance. Standing on the strength of our management experience and design expertise, we are focused on targeting this high growth market with the most cost-effective solutions for products that are rapidly becoming an indispensable part of our everyday lives," said Mr. Joseph Jiang, Mobilic founder, president and CEO. "Our new family of multimedia processors represents a crucial step towards realizing our goal of becoming the leader in SoC solutions for mobile devices."
Mobilic Technology -- Highest Level of Functional Integration
Mobilic multimedia processors provide the highest level of functional integration in the industry, supporting more applications than any other known IC on the market.
- Mobilic processors support the most peripheral interfaces in the industry including USB host, Ethernet, and TV interface.
- More powerful video compression/decompression engine developed in house. Mobilic engines support I, P and B frames and most MPEG4-based video formats, including 3GP, MP4, H263 and more.
- Comprehensive color processing engine developed in-house that includes AE, AWB, auto focus, auto defective pixel correction, corner compensation, flash strobe control, 16X digital zoom, special effects, face change, and more.
Key Functions
Mobilic processors feature the 200 MHz ARM926 CPU, ensuring future functional extensions through software upgrades. The new processors also integrate a video codec supporting MPEG4 and H.263 standards, an MP3 decoder, a 2D graphics acceleration engine, and interfaces for high-resolution LCD, TV, Ethernet and USB. In addition, the multimedia processors support high- performance video recording/playback with numerous peripheral interfaces. The USB host feature allows direct connection between two cell phones allowing users to share images, video and data immediately. The processor also has a built-in PC camera feature and permits immediate viewing of images or video on TV by using an AV interface.
MP830 Family
The MP830 Family is ideal for low-power mobile devices such as cell phones. The MP830 Family is also equipped with power management and internal stacked DRAM.
It does not require any external SDRAM, which simplifies system design complexity. To support image sensors with different pixel counts, MP830 Family contains 3 products: MP831 for 1.3 MPixels, MP833 for 3 MPixels and MP835 for 5 MPixels.
MP730 Family
The MP730 Family is targeted for applications where higher performance and network connectivity are required, and extremely low power requirements are less of a concern. Compared with the MP830 Family, the MP730 Family includes additional interfaces for NOR flash, SDRAM and Ethernet, and is targeted for design into devices such as IP cameras, security cameras and digital camcorders.
Technology Roadmap
Mobilic will continue to maintain its leadership by providing customers with the most feature-rich, cost-effective multimedia solutions for mobile applications. Future products will include technologies such as:
- H.264 codec
- Digital TV decoder supporting DVB-T and DVB-H
- Integrated wireless communications functionality
- Global Positioning System (GPS) solution.
Pricing and Availability
Mobilic's new SoC MP830 and MP730 Family of multimedia processors are priced under $10.00 in units of 10K. Engineering samples will be available in December 2005, with shipping scheduled for February 2006.
