Silicon Image Unveils New Technologies and Programs to Provide a Richer Home Entertainment Experience for Consumers
LAS VEGAS, January 3, 2006 — Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in the secure distribution, presentation and storage of high-definition content, announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a series of new products, enabling technologies, and programs geared at enhancing the consumer’s experience of high definition.
The series of announcements include:
- The industry’s first deep color display interface chips, the Sil 7170 and Sil 7171 transmitter and receiver. The Sil 7170 and Sil 7171 enable the deep color pipeline by delivering iTMDS, the next-generation internal link technology for high definition televisions (HDTVs). With more than twice the bandwidth of comparable interface technologies, iTMDS enables manufacturers to build HDTVs that support deep color (30-bit and 36-bit red/green/blue color), for stunning rendering of more than a billion colors in unprecedented detail. iTMDS also reduces bill of materials cost by lowering the cost of integrated circuits, cables and connectors. Silicon Image will deliver a pipeline of transmitter and receiver products supporting deep color during 2006.
- Simplay Labs and the Simplay HD Testing Program, a compatibility testing program for manufacturers of high definition consumer electronics devices, helping them to achieve compatibility for the highest-quality HDTV experience. As part of the program launch, Simplay Labs today unveiled the Simplay HD™ logo, new testing service options, the Simplay HD website for manufacturers and consumers, and marketing programs with Monster Cable Products, Inc. and Tweeter Home Entertainment Group Inc.
- SiI 8200 Video Processor, the first video processor to enable digital audio playback, photo display and video recording in mass-market HDTVs. With a 12-input video front-end, dual video processing paths enabling picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-over-picture (POP), 3D motion-adaptive de-interlacing, scaling, frame rate conversion, and multimedia engines for digital photos and digital audio (JPEG, WMA, MP3 and AAC), the SiI 8200 is a complete system solution for HDTVs. By incorporating a 32-bit MIPS processor, the SiI 8200 is able to achieve greater performance while driving cost out of next-generation television designs.
- SiI 9020 HDMI Transmitter Solution, the first discrete High-Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) transmitter chip designed specifically for the mobile market. The SiI 9020 will enable manufacturers to easily add HDMI outputs to high definition video (HDV) camcorders and digital cameras, allowing consumers to display their videos and photos at the highest level of quality on their HDTVs. Unlike IEEE 1394 connections, which transfer compressed video, HDMI allows users to directly transfer uncompressed video for uncompromised image quality.
- SiI 9023 HDMI Receiver Solution, featuring dual HDMI inputs and full 1080p resolution for HDTVs. The SiI 9023 gives TV manufacturers a cost-effective means of implementing multiple HDMI inputs and standardizes design for easy implementation by current customers.
- SiI 4726 SteelVine™ Storage Processor, featuring five high-speed (3 gigabit per second) SATA-II ports and best-in-class performance. The SiI 4726 enables manufacturers to build affordable, reliable and scalable storage solutions for the audio/video editing, small office/home office and small to medium-sized business markets. The SiI 4726 is an integrated circuit that can be configured for internal or external applications. It delivers high-end features – including auto rebuild, auto fail over, hot swap and hot spare – while hiding the complexity from end users.
- Leading PC manufacturers have selected the SiI 1930 and SiI 1390 HDMI transmitters to provide HDMI outputs on their multimedia desktop and notebook PCs, giving their customers unparalleled access to a new world of premium digital content. PCs with HDMI allow consumers to transmit the highest-quality premium digital video and audio content, such as HD movies from HD-DVD or Blu-ray drives and HDTV tuners, to HDTVs and other displays.
Silicon Image detailed each of these announcements today in a series of press releases, which are available at http://www.siliconimage.com/news/press/. Silicon Image is demonstrating its technology at CES 2006 this week in its suite at Harrah’s Las Vegas.
Silicon Image continues to benefit from its strategy of advancing the delivery of secure digital content in the home by developing cutting edge high-bandwidth technology, enlisting industry partners to embrace the technology as a standard on a no-cost or very-low-cost licensing basis, and developing industry-leading semiconductors and platforms based on that technology.
“The transition to high-definition content demands an architecture for digital content delivery that is robust, high-performance and cost-effective,” said Steve Tirado, president and CEO of Silicon Image. “With today’s announcements, Silicon Image continues to drive the architecture and standards that will define the consumer electronics and PC markets of tomorrow.”
