OpenTV Collaborates with S3 and Nagravision to provide Pre-integrated Solutions based on STMicroelectronics High-Definition Chips for High Definition Set-Top Boxes
San Francisco, CA, January 3, 2006 – OpenTV Corp., a leading provider of enabling technologies for advanced digital television services, in association with Silicon & Software Systems (S3), Nagravision and STMicroelectronics, today announced and demonstrated the results of its ongoing collaboration to provide pre-integrated solutions that enable accelerated time-to-market for set-top box(STB) manufacturers and pay TV operators wishing to deploy secure, interactive, high definition STB solutions. The results of these efforts will be highlighted at the 2006 International CES Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The demonstration is based upon ST's STB710x Reference Design Platform and provides an integrated solution that includes OpenTV's Core™ 2.0 Middleware, S3's coLinkTV adaptation software, and Nagravision's Conditional Access System. The integrated solution is targeted at manufacturers' intent on gaining strategic advantage in the high-definition STB market.
"Working with S3 should help to expedite STB vendor deployments of our latest products," said Matthew Huntington, VP of product marketing at OpenTV. "S3 has a wealth of experience both with OpenTV products and also with ST and Nagravision systems and their coLinkTV solution brings clear benefits in time-to-market for advanced, interactive, high definition STBs."
Referring to the announcement, Paul Kavanagh, Product Marketing Manager at S3, said, "This is a key activity for S3, demonstrating the rapid introduction of OpenTV Core 2.0 on new STMicroelectronics designs. We believe that our coLinkTV software has a major role to play in the rollout of high definition TV services around the world, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration."
Eric Chaubert, VP of Business Development at Nagravision, said, "Nagravision is pleased to collaborate with S3, OpenTV, and ST on this exciting project. The combination of the S3 coLinkTV solution integrating the Nagravision Conditional Access Kernel and OpenTV Core 2.0 really makes sense to many of our customers and will speed their deployments of new solutions based on ST’s latest designs."
"coLinkTV is the missing link between OpenTV and the driver software for our STB710x device and we believe that the S3 software will enable our customers to rapidly deploy new designs based on our STB710x series," added Christos Lagomichos, VP of Home Entertainment Group at STMicroelectronics.
