Cypress Delivers PRoC (Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip) Development Kit To Help Customers Streamline Transition To Wireless Connectivity
Comprehensive kit simplifies development of 2.4-GHz wireless solutions For applications ranging from PC peripherals to white goods and consumer electronics
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 17, 2006 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced production availability of development kits for its multiple-award winning PRoC™ (Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip™) devices. The PRoC Development Kit includes flexible development boards, PRoC modules, LCD modules, schematics, bills-of-materials, source code, and documentation for designers looking for a seamless transition from wired to wireless solutions. The kit facilitates development of PRoC based applications and helps achieve faster time to market for products. Customers can use the kit to develop single-chip applications like small form-factor wireless keyboards and mice, presenter tools, wireless thermostats including LCD displays, precision remote controls for RC toys and more.
The PRoC device combines Cypress's WirelessUSB™ 2.4-GHz radio-on-a-chip and PSoC(R) (Programmable System-on-Chip™) mixed-signal array in an integrated product. It integrates Cypress's market-leading Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) interference immunity technology with the power and flexibility of the PSoC architecture, offering a complete wireless solution in a single chip. PRoC is designed to implement highly integrated, space-saving, low-cost, wireless systems.
"The PRoC Development Kit reinforces Cypress's strategy of offering customers complete, high-quality development tools for a quick, painless way to cut the cord on wired products," said Marcus Kramer, director of Cypress's Human Interface Device (HID) business unit. "The kit includes all of the resources needed to develop a complete wireless 2.4-GHz solution."
The CY3653 PRoC Development Kit includes all of the following items:
- PSoC Evaluation Board provides an easy development platform for wireless solutions
- Hardware to support in-circuit emulation
- PRoC Modules for a fast plug-and-play solution
- PRoC Programmer for programming individual PRoC Parts
- LCD Module to display application data to provide quick user feedback
- CD-ROM with kit documentation, hardware schematics, tutorial and firmware for application development.
About Programmable Radio-on-a-Chip (PRoC)
PRoC includes two of the Cypress's most noteworthy technologies - WirelessUSB and PSoC - in one integrated device. It offers access to a general-purpose mixed signal array with four programmable analog and four programmable digital blocks, 8KBytes of Flash program memory storage, 512 Bytes of SRAM data storage, 8 bit Microcontroller, and a powerful Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) 2.4GHz radio system - all integrated in a compact, 48-pin QFN package. It is designed to implement highly-integrated, space-saving, low-cost, wireless systems operating in the worldwide 2.4-GHz ISM band. In 2005, PRoC earned EDN China's "Innovation of the Year" award and Electronic Engineering & Product World's "Best New Embedded System Technology" award, and it was named to EDN Magazine's list of 100 Hot Products.
