MindTree Announces Portfolio of Ultrawideband Intellectual Property for License to Global Silicon Vendors
MindTree’s UWB IPs branded as UltraWiz, is based on the WiMedia UWB common radio platform, and will power UWB based consumer electronics and wireless products deliver a maximum throughput of 480 mbps of audio, video and data over the air.
The UltraWiz portfolio would constitute all the digital hardware and firmware components of WiMedia-based UWB and certified wireless USB, and includes:
- UltraWiz PHY (digital hardware part of the UWB physical layer)
- UltraWiz MAC (hardware and firmware combined medium access layer)
- UltraWiz UTEST (integrated test development and execution environment for MAC/PHY)
- UltraWiz UPAL (certified wireless USB protocol adaptation layer)
MindTree Executive Vice-President & CTO of R&D Services, Vinod Deshmukh said, “We will integrate and test the UltraWiz suite on an FPGA based evaluation board, thus enabling a credible demonstrator for our customers and partners”. He added, “The UltraWiz PHY & MAC are at the alpha stage, and beta testing on some blocks has already begun. UltraWiz would be ready for evaluation beginning Q2 2006 and this period will also see completion of all validation on the FPGA board.”
“The need for high transfer rates of multimedia data is driving UWB as the logical choice into applications like a wireless home theatre setup or a wireless printing or projection scenario. We will build on our Bluetooth leadership and investment in the short range wireless domain, leveraging the depth of knowledge, market awareness and rigorous engineering approach, to deliver world class, robust and re-usable UWB building blocks,” said S. Janakiraman, MindTree President and CEO, R&D Services. “We have received tremendous interest in our UWB program from global silicon vendors till date. We will now endeavor to realize products based on our feature rich UltraWiz platform for our customers and partners.”
