Bluespec Momentum Grows as Leading Mobile Semiconductor Firms Adopt Its ESL Synthesis
Applications Range from Baseband Processor to Controller and Chip Interconnect Designs
Waltham, Mass. – February 1, 2006– Momentum continues to grow for Bluespec Inc., developer of the only ESL synthesis toolset for control logic and complex datapaths in chip design, as three leading mobile semiconductor firms have adopted its ESL synthesis within the last six months.
These integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) are among the top suppliers to the mobile semiconductor market and are using ESL synthesis for a variety of applications, including baseband processor, controller and chip interconnect designs.
Moving to ESL synthesis for complex control logic and datapath circuits helps these companies reduce time and cost. Their design teams use Bluespec to develop and integrate intellectual property (IP) and as a means of building high-performance, low power chips. All admit the need to attack the design, verification and timing closure challenges that exacerbate resources, time-to-market and product quality.
“Mobile is one of the hottest, most coveted semiconductor markets today because of its sheer size as well as the rich content of the chip designs,” says Shiv Tasker, Bluespec chief executive officer, who cites recent Gartner reports that predict worldwide mobile phone sales will be 810 million in 2005 and will rise 10-15 percent during 2006. “With so much at stake, these IDMs will soon find that ESL synthesis can be used to determine power consumption early in the process, a critical component of any mobile phone design.”
Bluespec was notified recently that its Bluespec Compiler and Simulator toolset has been chosen as a finalist in the ASIC and IC Design Tools category of this year’s DesignVision Awards, sponsored by the International Engineering Consortium and the 2006 DesignCon Team. Winners will be announced February 7 during DesignCon, which will be held February 6-9 at Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

About Bluespec
Bluespec, Inc. manufactures an industry standards-based Electronic Design Automation (EDA) toolset that significantly raises the level of abstraction for hardware design while retaining the ability to automatically synthesize high quality RTL, without compromising speed, power or area. The toolset, the only one focused on control and complex datapaths, allows ASIC and FPGA designers to significantly reduce design time, bugs and re-spins that contribute to product delays and escalating costs.
