SRS WOW XT and SRS XSPACE 3D Now Available on Tensilica's Xtensa HiFi 2 Audio Engine for Mobile Phones
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Tensilica (Apr 24, 2013)
Companies To Demonstrate the Technologies at 3GSM Conference in Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona, Spain and Santa Ana, CA, Feb 13, 2006 - SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRSL), a leading provider of audio technology solutions, today announced two key mobile solutions, SRS WOW XT™, and SRS Xspace 3D™, are now available on Tensilica’s HiFi 2 Audio Engine. SRS WOW XT, expressly designed for earbuds and the small speakers typically found in mobile phones, improves the dynamic audio performance of compressed and uncompressed audio by expanding the size of the audio image and creating a deep, rich bass response. SRS Xspace 3D, designed from the ground up for mobile gaming, is a high-performance real-time 3D audio rendering engine compatible with industry standard specifications. Demonstrations of SRS WOW XT and SRS Xspace 3D on the Xtensa HiFi 2 can be experienced at 3GSM in Tensilica’s booth, H27/H28 in Hall 2.
The Xtensa HiFi 2 Audio Engine employs over 300 audio-specific DSP (digital signal processing) instructions, created specifically by the engineers at Tensilica to optimize the Xtensa LX processor for audio. The optimized combination of industry standard audio formats and SRS Labs technologies completes a full multimedia suite including music playback, audio for video, and gaming.
“Tensilica’s HiFi 2 Audio Engine is a perfect fit for our audio technologies in SOC designs for the mobile market,” said Lenka Koloma, director of strategic IC partners at SRS Labs, Inc. “Combining SRS WOW XT and SRS Xspace 3D on HiFi 2 gives handset makers a complete feature set with superior performance and a quick time to market.”
“Multimedia applications are a key factor which handset makers can use to differentiate their products,” stated Larry Przywara, Tensilica’s director of strategic alliances. “Our HiFi 2 Audio Engine enabled with the SRS Labs features creates a unique value proposition which will be attractive to carriers and consumers.”
Evaluation packages are available immediately. Handset makers interested in evaluating SRS WOW XT or SRS Xspace 3D may contact their local SRS Labs office or email sales@srslabs.com.
About SRS WOW™ XT
SRS WOW™ improves the dynamic audio performance of compressed and uncompressed audio by expanding the size of the audio image and creating a deep, rich bass response. The patented techniques in SRS WOW widen the horizontal sound field and raise the vertical sound image, retrieving information lost in the mixing process to create a more natural audio experience. WOW also shapes a maximized bass response using sculpted filters and driver physics to go beyond the low-frequency limitations of speakers and headphones. The combination enables manufacturers of televisions, mobile phones, and digital audio players to leverage cost-effective components for a high-quality consumer experience. SRS WOW XT includes special capability for mobile phones with ultra-wide stereo imaging and optimized single speaker playback.
About SRS Xspace 3D™
SRS Xspace 3D is a high-performance real-time 3D audio rendering engine designed specifically for mobile platforms. Optimized for low-MIPS and low-memory environments, SRS Xspace 3D immerses listeners in a virtual world where the game developer can place and move audio objects around the player’s head. Scalable to a large number of simultaneous sources, SRS Xspace 3D provides fast response and accurate positioning. SRS Xspace 3D also supports dynamic effects such as Doppler and reverb and is the only mobile 3D audio engine with built-in bass enhancement. SRS Xspace 3D is compatible with JSR 234 and is available now on multiple platforms.
