Xilinx & Sensory Networks Announce Industry's Most Scalable, FPGA-Enabled Network Security Acceleration Solution For Emerging UTM Security Appliances
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 13, 2006 – At the RSA Security Conference today, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) and Sensory Networks announced the industry’s most scalable, FPGA-enabled network security acceleration solution for the emerging Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance market. Powered by Sensory Networks NodalCore ® technology and Xilinx high-performance Virtex™-4 FPGA, the solution offers throughputs ranging from 100Mbps to 10Gbps and supports threat databases containing up to 10 million signatures. With the growing number and sophistication of network threats and exponential growth in raw network traffic, solutions built around general purpose architectures are not able to meet the intense security needs of today’s networks. The jointly developed solution not only scans network traffic against massive signature databases but also runs multiple applications in parallel at multi-gigabit speeds without sacrificing accuracy.
According to IDC, the key to success in the threat management security appliance market is product differentiation through improved performance and features. The Virtex-4 enabled solution provides multi-gigabit performance while remaining adaptable to the changing threat landscape – allowing future performance and feature upgrades over the network. Sensory Networks is demonstrating the solution in booth #1923 at the RSA Security Conference February 14-17 2006, in the McEnery Convention Center, San Jose.
The Virtex-4 FPGA acts as a co-processor to a CPU or NPU, and offloads critical content security operations such as pattern matching, content decoding and decompression, improving the speed of antivirus, antispam, antispyware, intrusion prevention and content filtering applications on next-generation security appliances. This is achieved with a configurable set of on-chip parallel processing blocks that are optimized for high throughput content processing, and patent-pending memory compression algorithms that allow massive signature databases to be stored in attached RLDRAM memory banks.
“The trend of integrating multiple security functions into infrastructure equipment is on the rise which is creating demand for additional processing power,” said Amit Dhir, director of Infrastructure Vertical Markets at Xilinx. “This robust solution can address a wide range of network security processing requirements more effectively than processor-only or ASIC based solutions.”
“The portfolio of ready-to-go applications that have been accelerated by NodalCore means best-of-breed appliances can be built with short time to market,” said Ryan Junee, Manager of Strategic Partnerships at Sensory Networks. “At Sensory Networks we partner with leading security application vendors, providing an ecosystem of applications with next generation performance and accuracy.”
