Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS Continues Support for CDMA Chipset from VIA Telecom
MOBILE, Ala., Feb. 14, 2006 -Accelerated Technology®, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that VIA Telecom, Inc, a leading developer of CDMA chipsets and long-term partner of the company, has extended its license agreement for the Nucleus® real-time operating system (RTOS) to support VIA's CDMA baseband processors. Now mobile phone developers can continue to have a robust foundation on which to build smaller, more powerful products with increased reliability and lower power consumption.
"We are delighted to continue to integrate the Nucleus PLUS RTOS into our CDMA Baseband Processors, and we believe that the result will benefit handset manufacturers and users," said Kang Hee Kim, marketing manager at VIA Telecom.
The Nucleus PLUS RTOS is integrated into VIA Telecom's single-chip CBP4, CBP5 and CBP6 family of CDMA Baseband Processors, which also features an ARM7TDMI® core.
The solid and flexible Nucleus PLUS RTOS is ideal for developing the broad capabilities that consumers require from multimedia mobile phones, including digital cameras, gaming applications, Web browsing with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Internet connection, and complicated settings (such as ring tone options, extended calendars, and currency converters). Implemented in over 40 cellular designs last year alone, the Nucleus PLUS RTOS is also widely accepted for building applications that include consumer electronics, as well as portable and handheld devices. Additionally, developers using the Nucleus PLUS RTOS can maintain lower product costs with Accelerated Technology's royalty-free software.
"The combination of the VIA Telecom CDMA chipset and the Nucleus RTOS offers a baseband platform that makes it easy for cell phone vendors to start developing their next generation of CDMA-based phones," said Glen Johnson, product marketing manager, Accelerated Technology Division. "The reliability and proven track record of the Nucleus RTOS in the cell phone industry, coupled with the attractive royalty-free business model, offers the most compelling software solution for cell phone manufacturers today."
VIA Telecom's single-chip CBP4, CBP5 and CBP6 family of CDMA Baseband Processors is an integrated single-chip baseband processor solution that provides a complete 3G cdma2000® Release 0 solution. The processors are also backwards-compatible to IS-95B and integrates mixed-signal analog and digital functionality with a seamless interface to multiple RF components from the industry's leading suppliers.
