Xilinx And CMC Increase IP Core Development In India To Help Customers Complete Programmable Designs Faster
HYDERABAD, India, March 2, 2006 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), the world’s leading supplier of programmable chips, today announced that the India development centre, operated by CMC Limited in Hyderabad, has delivered 24 Intellectual Property (IP) cores since it was established in February 2004. IP cores are pre-engineered, functional modules that Xilinx customers use to reduce the development time of their programmable system designs. All 24 Indian-designed IP cores are verified and optimized for use with Xilinx programmable silicon platforms and are available to the company’s worldwide customer base of over 7,500 companies and over 200,000 design engineers generating more than 50,000 design starts annually. Having doubled the size of the team to 60 staff in the past year, the Xilinx-CMC India development centre focuses on designing IP cores for automotive electronics, embedded processing and high-speed serial I/O connectivity. Furthermore, the activities in Hyderabad cover all phases of the development lifecycle including architecture specification, design, verification and hardware validation of IP cores.
“By investing early in India to incorporate it into our global R&D efforts, we have built a competitive advantage in utilizing the local engineering talent to create leading-edge IP solutions for our customers worldwide,” said Mr. Wim Roelandts, Chairman, President and CEO of Xilinx. “Through our strategic relationship with CMC, our development activities in India have met our expectations and we will continue to leverage this exciting market as a source of innovation, talent and partnerships.”
“We are pleased with the progress of our strategic relationship with Xilinx over the past two years to develop a world-class IP design centre in Hyderabad,” said Mr. R. Ramanan, Managing Director and CEO of CMC Limited. “By working closely with Xilinx on state-of-the-art semiconductor technologies, we have firmly established ourselves as a leader in embedded systems solutions, one of our key areas of R&D specialization.”
“The growing success of the high value-added development activities in Hyderabad is a strong vote of confidence for Xilinx, CMC and the local semiconductor industry,” said Mr. Akshya Prakash, Managing Director of the Xilinx-CMC India development centre. “We are committed to investing further in people and resources to accelerate our IP core program locally and to promote the use of our industry-leading programmable chip solutions in India.”
The Xilinx-CMC India development centre has built an impressive track record of innovation over the past two years and has expanded the library of Xilinx-developed IP cores by 15%, including the following achievements:
- The CAN LogiCORE™ IP which provides a full set of features and capabilities to quickly implement the increasingly popular Controller Area Networks (CAN) protocol with the Xilinx Spartan™ and Virtex™ Platform FPGAs. It conforms to the ISO 11898-1 CAN 2.0A/B standards and can be used with the entire Xilinx Automotive (XA) family of programmable logic devices (PLDs).
- The PLB DDR2 SDRAM controller which allows customers to interface the Virtex-II Pro and Virtex-4 PowerPC™ 405 cores to DDR2 memory through the PowerPC Processor Local Bus. DDR2 SDRAM is a memory technology that isthe next evolutionary step from DDR (Double Data Rate) because it introduces new features and functions that enable higher clock and data rate operations.
- The Aurora Protocol Specification v1.3 Bus Functional Model (BFM) which is an open, scalable, lightweight, link-layer protocol that is used to move data across point-to-point serial links. The BFM includes advanced features for precision testing and characterization of Aurora implementations – including simplex and automatic conformance testing for 8B/10B duplex designs.
