LTRIM Technologies New Family of Adaptable DC-DC Converter IP Blocks Meet SoC System Requirements
Available Now in TSMC 0.13-Micron Technology
MONTREAL, March 23, 2006 - LTRIM Technologies, a leading provider of high performance CMOS analog intellectual property (IP), today announced a new family of high efficiency, fixed frequency step-down and/or step-up (buck/boost) DC-DC converter IP blocks, available now in TSMC CMOS mixed- signal/RF 0.13-micron technology. Within the new family, System on Chip (SoC) designers will find a selection of operating frequencies and output voltages designed to meet a wide variety of battery-powered applications.
The LTR2xxx family of DC-DC Converters are functionally similar to the LTC3440 Synchronous Buck-Boost DC-DC Converters from Linear Technology (Nasdaq: LLTC), giving SoC designers the ability to integrate power management into their SoCs to improve system performance and extend battery life while reducing overall cost and PCB area.
The new family includes the following IP blocks:
- LTR2400-T13M Dual Mode Step-Down/Step-Up DC-DC Converter, with a Vout from 1.8 to 3.3V and a frequency of 300kHz.
- LTR2100-T13M Step-Down DC-DC Converter, with a Vout from 1.2 to 2.5V and a frequency of 300kHz.
- LTR2200-T13M Step-Up DC-DC Converter, with a Vout from 1.8 to 3.3V and a frequency of 300kHz.
- LTR2410-1.8T13M High Frequency, Dual Mode Step-Down/Step-Up DC-DC Converter, with a Vout of 1.8V and a frequency of 1.2MHz.
- LTR2110-1.8T13M High Frequency, Step-Down DC-DC Converter, with a Vout of 1.8V and a frequency of 1.2MHz.
- LTR2110-1.2T13M High Frequency, Step-Down DC-DC Converter, with a Vout of 1.2V and a frequency of 1.2MHz.
- LTR2210-1.8T13M High Frequency, Step-Up DC-DC Converter, with a Vout of 1.8V and a frequency of 1.2MHz.
"SoC designers often have to make application-specific trade-offs in their designs, and portable devices are no exception," said Sean Long, LTRIM's Director of Marketing. "For example, noise can be an issue at some frequency bands, and form factor sometimes requires a trade-off for efficiency. LTRIM's new family of high efficiency DC-DC converters gives SoC designers a real choice with a selection of products that offer different modes of operation, a range of output voltages, and different operating frequencies. The IP blocks enable designers to develop any number of battery-powered devices from high- end mobile phones to sophisticated medical devices."
The family of IP blocks enables smaller form factor designs by using low equivalent series resistant (ESR) ceramic output capacitors and surface mount inductors. This is a key requirement for many portable devices.
Especially designed for use in portable, battery-powered devices, the new family of IP blocks contains features designed to extend the life of a battery such as SLEEP mode for light load operation and SHUTDOWN mode for power savings. The IP blocks operate at high efficiency of up to 95 percent with high output accuracy and guaranteed output current for highly reliable power supply performance.
LTRIM's new family of DC-DC converter IP blocks, like all of LTRIM's high-performance power-management and analog blocks, are easily integrated into mixed-signal SoCs and analog ICs for overall bill of materials (BOM) cost savings, higher reliability and performance, and exceptional accuracy.
The new family of IP blocks is available now in TSMC CMOS mixed signal/RF 0.13-micron technology; however, they can be retargeted to other foundry process technologies and output voltages.
