Lattice IPexpress User Configurable IP Cores Dramatically Reduce Evaluation Time, Accelerate Time to Market
Functions Including DDR, Ethernet MAC, FFT Compiler and PCI can be Parameterized, Instantiated and Evaluated in Hardware on the Desktop
HILLSBORO, OR -- March 29, 2006 -- Lattice Semiconductor Corporation today announced the immediate availability of several key ispLeverCORE™ Intellectual Property (IP) modules that are user configurable via its IPexpress™ design flow. The new IPexpress flow, included as a standard feature in Lattice’s ispLEVER® design tool suite, significantly reduces design time by allowing IP parameterization and timing analysis on the designer’s desktop. In addition, a new hardware evaluation capability minimizes design risk by allowing free trial use of the cores prior to the purchase of an IP core license. IPexpress-supported functions include DDR, Ethernet, FIR, FFT, PCI and Reed-Solomon encoder and decoder. Lattice intends to make several more IPexpress cores available throughout the year.
“Customers face two formidable challenges when designing with IP. One is that traditionally customers must purchase an IP core license before they can evaluate the performance of their design in hardware. The second is that the evaluation process can be very time consuming, particularly when design specifications change, as they often do,” said Stan Kopec, Lattice corporate vice president of marketing. “Our IPexpress user configurable cores resolve both issues. Trial use of the cores before purchase of an IP license allows the design to be tested in hardware, and the ability to instantly change design specifications dramatically reduces the time needed for evaluation, enabling faster time to market,” Kopec concluded.
By configuring IP cores using the IPexpress flow, designers are able to simulate, place and route, generate netlists and run static timing analysis with their own logic and selected core parameters – all in real-time. The IPexpress flow also supports a hardware evaluation capability that makes it possible to create versions of the IP core that operate in hardware for a limited period of time without requiring the purchase of an IP license.
Availability
IPexpress user configurable cores available for immediate download from the Lattice IP server (accessible through the ispLEVER IPexpress GUI window) include:
- DDR Controller
- Dynamic Block Reed-Solomon Encoder
- Dynamic Block Reed-Solomon Decoder
- FFT Compiler
- FIR Compiler
- PCI
- Soft Error Detection
- Tri-Speed Ethernet MAC
User Guides for these IP modules can be found on the Lattice website at http://www.latticesemi.com/products/intellectualproperty/.
Lattice’s comprehensive ispLEVER design software, providing support for all Lattice CPLDs and FPGAs, including IPexpress support, is priced at a low $695 suggested resale for a complete PC-based seat.
About Lattice ispLeverCORE IP Modules
Lattice ispLeverCORE IP modules are large, modular design blocks that can be reused and easily placed within a programmable logic design. The ispLeverCORE modules implement popular industry-standard functions, commonly known as intellectual property (IP) cores.
The ispLeverCORE modules are optimized for use with Lattice devices. The modules are designed using the highest coding standards and are extensively tested to meet the required functionality and performance. These cores are ready-to-use, well documented and supported extensively by Lattice field and factory engineers. Most ispLeverCORE modules are designed to be parameterizable so that the module can be reconfigured quickly to meet specific system requirements.
