videantis showcases highest performance mobile video solution v-MP2000M
Mobile chip and system integrators using the v-MP2000M can dramatically reduce silicon area and power consumption. The powerful architecture and software solutions offer enhanced multi-standard video quality at unprecedented frame rate and resolution levels and even save dedicated functional blocks - thus silicon.
videantis demonstrates on its v-B2201 evaluation board for example fully compliant H.264/AVC video decoding for mobile TV reception via DVB-H or DMB and video playback up to VGA resolution, simultaneous MPEG-4 SP / H.263 en- and decoding, and MPEG-4 ASP / DivX decoding at full frame rates up to D1 resolution.
"Next generation mobile devices will need to support larger screen sizes of VGA format and beyond at further extended battery life. The specific challenges of mobile environments call for additional provisions for sophisticated error robustness and visual quality enhancements. Using the v-MP2000M, chip integrators can capitalize on a single building block for extended video functionality of value-add, yet cost-sensitive products," said Hans-Joachim Stolberg, CEO of videantis.
The v-MP2000M is specifically optimized for the small area and ultra-low power consumption demands of next-generation mobile phones, portable media players, and smartphones. Requiring only 30mW for H.264/AVC CIF 30fps decoding and less than 3mm² silicon area in 130nm including memories for full multi-standard functionality, the v-MP2000M further supports value-add extensions crucial for mobile applications such as enhanced error robustness, image scaling, overlay blending, frame rate conversion, or picture-in-picture by software enabling vendor-specific differentiation without silicon overhead.
The fully synthesizable v-MP2000M with proven portability to 130nm, 90nm, and 65nm technologies is ready for integration with industry-leading control processors like ARM and MIPS including driver support for Linux operating system and is offered with a fully optimized software suite for current video coding like H.264/AVC, MPEG-4 SP/ASP, DivX, H.263, WMV9/VC-1, MPEG-2, JPEG and others plus a wide range of value-add extensions.
