HiSilicon Integrate Hantro Video Technology into their Chipset
April 6, 2006 -- The market share of multimedia handsets saw significant growth through 2005 and with the focus of handset development shifting from music to video, applications such as: PMP, stream media and TV are becoming prerequisite features of next generation handsets. Multimedia will no longer be the exclusive function of high-end devices but standard configuration for mainstream ‘feature phone’ handsets.
In the feature phone segment, where price and battery-life are dominant decision making factors, the amount of processing resource available is limited which is in contrast to the requirements of computationally intensive tasks such as video coding. By integrating Hantro’s hardware video technology into their chipset, HiSilicon deliver high performance video with nominal processor load and power consumption bringing compelling multimedia capability to mainstream handsets.
“Hardware video acceleration enables the high performance applications needed to capture the interest of the consumer; integrating hardware video acceleration to the chipset provides an ideal solution for mass-market handset designs.” says Ai Wei, senior vice president of HiSilicon Technologies “Hantro were able to provide us with the optimal video solution with minimal CPU load and power consumption, making it a perfect fit for our chipset design.”
“We are proud that HiSilicon have selected Hantro as the preferred provider of hardware video IP for their chipset and look forward to continued cooperation to bring the highest performance video capability to the mass-market handset” says Eero Kaikkonen, President and CEO of Hantro
