Hantro Licenses Multimedia Technology to Skyworks for Lynx EDGE Multimedia Mobile Platform
April 7th, 2006 -- Hantro, a leading provider of multimedia technology for mobile devices, announced today that it has licensed video and audio coding technology to Skyworks Solutions, Inc., and industry leader in radio solutions and precision analog semiconductors. This agreement, which covers the 4100 and 4200 MPEG-4 / H.263 video codecs, enables customers of Skyworks’ Lynx™ EDGE multimedia mobile platform to benefit from the additional performance delivered by Hantro’s highly optimised multimedia components.
Skyworks’ focus is to deliver handset supplier solutions that balance system size, processing horsepower and battery life, while delivering comprehensive multimedia features. Hantro’s mature design and innovative algorithm implementations deliver better video quality with optimal load to the processor. A clear example of the technological leadership of Hantro’s design is its proprietary indexed full search motion estimation algorithm which, when compared to the full search method, reduces the computational complexity by a factor of 16 bringing tremendous advantages for battery operated handheld devices.
“Enabling a compelling level of performance is key to the success of video in mobile handsets and, as video capability moves from a nice-to-have feature to pre-requisite, handset manufacturers must respond to the consumer demand for improved performance,” said Eero Kaikkonen, president and chief executive officer of Hantro. “The combination of our advanced codec technology and Skyworks’ highly integrated Lynx™ EDGE multimedia mobile platform provides an optimal solution to meet these increasing demands.”
“Hantro provides us with a solution for our Lynx™ EDGE multimedia mobile platform enabling us to offer our customers an advantage by delivering optimal MPEG4/H.263 video performance,” said Mark Carpenter, director of product marketing for Mobile Platforms at Skyworks.
