Wipro-NewLogic announces availability of its Serial ATA series of Intellectual Property Cores
Bangalore, April 10, 2006 -- Wipro-NewLogic, the Semiconductor Intellectual Property arm of Wipro Technologies, today announced the availability of its Serial ATA (SATA) series of Intellectual Property cores. Wipro Technologies, the global IT Services division of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT), is the world’s largest independent R&D services provider.
On the occasion of the launch of the Serial ATA IPs, Hans-Peter Metzler, CEO of Wipro-NewLogic Business Unit said “The combined Wipro-NewLogic Intellectual Property team brings in close to 20 years of cumulative IP development and licensing experience. We are excited with this release as it is the first one with Wipro-NewLogic merged entity.”
Serial ATA or SATA is the flagship technology for next generation, high-speed, low cost, direct-attached storage solutions. It has become popular in desktop PC, workstation, and entry-level server environments. The trend towards Networking Consumer Electronics devices in the home is well supported by SATA’s hot-plug and hot-swap option and its low cost proposition. Hence, SATA is being used in Hard disk drives, CD and DVD drives, HD DVR and High end Set Top boxes. SATA finds usage in other applications like SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage) as well as in RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) subsystems.
Wipro-NewLogic’s Serial ATA IP portfolio includes the SATA Host IPs and SATA Device IPs. Both SATA Host and SATA Device IPs include the Transport Layer, the Link Layer and the Digital portion of Physical layer. All these layers are implemented in Hardware in form of Verilog RTL. Wipro’s SATA Host IPs will be taken to silicon soon by a Japanese semiconductor giant.
"We are continuously investing in a large number of Intellectual Property cores and technology building blocks for catering to the needs of our customers in IT Platforms, Consumer Electronics, Storage, Automotive and Industrial automation industries, to name a few. Our customers have endorsed our leadership in connectivity technologies, both in wireline as well as in wireless space. Extending our IP leadership position in IEEE 1394 (Firewire) family of Serial wired technology, we are happy to announce the availability of the SATA Host and Device IPs. This complements with our organizational focus on Storage and Consumer Electronics practices performed through Professional Services of Wipro Technologies", says Sukalyan Mukherjee, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Wipro- NewLogic.
