San Jose, Calif., August 30, 2000 * Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) today announced the availability of on-line training classes for system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs. By utilizing the Internet as an avenue for engineers to be trained on advanced programmable logic device (PLD) technology, such as the APEX(tm) 20KE PLD architecture and Quartus(tm) development software, Altera provides flexible and available engineering training programs to the design engineering community. With the rapid design and deployment of more complex products in today's marketplace, detailed and easily accessible training will be a requirement in choosing advanced technology solutions such as Altera's PLDs. Altera developed this technical training solution through a partnership with ICtips.com, a leading provider of on-line training courses in high-technology areas. "Altera's on-line training is another example of how we will technically support our customers using the Internet," said Bryon Moyer, Altera director of customer applications. "By providing our customers with flexible, web-based opportunities for training, Altera is able to offer technical training at any time, complementing our traditional instructor-led courses." "These new web-based courses are the most recent element in Altera's overall strategy to provide superior customer marketing support on-line," said Craig Leclair, Altera director of online marketing. "Bringing this type of increased value to the customer via the web has become a necessity in today's rapidly changing business environment.""We are very excited to partner with Altera in developing world-class globally-accessible e-learning solutions," said Ricky Bedi, ICtips.com vice president business development. "Our past experiences in delivering traditional instructor-led training courses have enabled us to develop our Internet-based training platform, which reproduces the different aspects of instructor-led training."
Flexible On-Line Training
Altera's on-line training courses cover a variety of topics on APEX 20KE and Quartus development software. Upcoming courses will focus on Excalibur(tm) embedded processor solutions, and other new products offered by Altera. The courses are self-paced, allowing designers to navigate through the course, covering topics that are beneficial to their goals. These courses feature an interactive environment, including pop quizzes, graphics, animation, and sound to fully illustrate concepts. Each course takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete, and can be reviewed at any time for one month after purchase.
