QuickLogic Announces Production Shipments of World's Lowest Power FPGA - PolarPro
- Power consumption 98% better than competing Flash-based FPGAs and 99% better than competing SRAM-based FPGAs
- Company-wide execution in all phases of product development results in “on time” release
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – May 18, 2006 -- QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the lowest power programmable logic leader, announced production shipments of the first two members of the industry’s lowest power family of FPGAs, the QL1P075 and the QL1P100.
QuickLogic announced engineering samples of the PolarPro™ family in December of 2005, and with company-wide execution, has delivered on-time production silicon within four months. Underscoring the market need for an ultra-low power FPGA, QuickLogic had production orders for these first devices during the engineering sample period.
“PolarPro FPGAs provide us with the unique combination of programmability, ASIC-like power consumption and competitive pricing,” said Keith Jasinski, Project Engineer at Mortara Instrument. “These attributes enable us to create custom ICs for our portable medical products that maximize battery life and minimize total system cost.”
Quiescent, or standby current is a critical factor determining battery life in portable and handheld consumer electronics. Architected specifically to address this factor, the new Very Low Power (VLP) mode integrated into PolarPro devices exhibit quiescent current nearly half that of the closest “zero power” CPLD, 98% less than the closest Flash-based FPGA, and 99% less than the closest SRAM-based FPGA.
“Customer acceptance of PolarPro has been strong, with several design wins in portable consumer electronics, portable medical applications and reference designs from Tier 1 semiconductor companies,” said Brian Faith, QuickLogic’s Senior Director of Marketing. “We are extremely pleased with the performance of our entire company in bringing PolarPro to production on time.”
Software Support
