POSDATA Spurs Mobile WiMAX Terminal Chip Set Using Silicon Hive Processor
POSDATA Has Stepped up Its Efforts to Develop a Mobile WiMAX Terminal Chip Set Accelerating Its Thrust Into WiBro Services
SEOUL, South Korea & EINDHOVEN, Netherlands--May 22, 2006--POSDATA (CEO Byung Chang Yoo, www.posdata.co.kr, Seoul, Korea) and Silicon Hive (Eindhoven, the Netherlands) announced that POSDATA has licensed Silicon Hive's AVISPA-CH1 processor IP for the development of base band solution embedded in mobile WiMAX terminal chips. POSDATA is one of the leading companies in mobile WiMAX products and technology, providing base stations, control servers, network and customer management systems, chipsets, and end user mobile devices. Silicon Hive is a worldwide semiconductor IP supplier, licensing programmable embedded signal processor technology for consumer and mobile terminals.
POSDATA has applied Silicon Hive's AVISPA-CH1 processor, which is optimized for OFDM applications, to its mobile WiMAX chips. This programmable processor will provide flexibility to POSDATA's chip products, accelerating market introduction and thus giving the company a greater competitive edge in the global market.POSDATA plans to unveil the PSSM1001 SoC and release it in the market in the second half of this year. The company is now in negotiations with terminal manufacturers at home and abroad to supply the SoC. In February, POSDATA signed an MOU with ReignCom to provide this mobile WiMAX chip.
Dr. Yong Je Lim, Section Manager in charge of chip development in POSDATA, said, "We finally decided to license Silicon Hive's AVISPA-CH1 based on our thorough analysis of the technology and market competitiveness. The PSSM1001 SoC minimizes battery power consumption, while also using software-based design for flexibility. The flexibility is sufficient to support diverse application profiles and a wide range of user terminals of mobile WiMAX."
Dr. Geoff Burns, Vice President of Product Management at Silicon Hive said, "We are excited in servicing POSDATA and further penetrating the mobile WiMAX markets. Our customers, seeking quick time to market in this rapidly evolving application, appreciate the maturity of our Silicon proven Avispa for OFDM signal processing."
