Elliptic Semiconductor Licenses Crytographic Processor Engine to Wavesat
Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
Tuesday, May 30, 2006 – Ottawa. Elliptic Semiconductor today announced that Wavesat has selected Elliptic’s cryptographic processor engine for use in its Sharp chipset aiming at both, Portable and Fixed WiMAX applications. Wavesat has been developing and marketing innovative wireless solutions for 13 years and has recently been named the Most Innovative Wireless Broadband Company of the Year at the 2006 Wireless Broadband Innovation (WBI) Awards in recognition for the advances they are bringing to the WiMAX market.
Wavesat’s Shark chipset is the next step in its Evolutive™ strategy and it:
- Integrates the entire Physical Layer (PHY) and H/W Media Access Control (MAC) Accelerator.
- Includes an encryption engine to offload the application processor.
- Offers a small footprint (11x11 mm2) and ultra low power consumption (<200 mW) using 0.13 Micron technology.
- Offers basic mobility capability in accordance with the WiMAX Forum 802.16e ETG profile.
- Supports Sleep Mode for enhanced power savings.
- Adds PCI core for easy interface to motherboard/application processor.
As security is an important feature of the Shark, Wavesat selected Elliptic’s market leading flow-through security processor which offers support for both fixed WiMAX (802.16-2004) and mobile WiMAX (802.16e-2005).
"We reviewed security partners carefully before making our final vendor selection," said Pierre Lamoureux, Vice-President Engineering and CTO of Wavesat. "Elliptic is clearly leading the way in WiMAX security and their solutions address the complete spectrum of standards we require for our Shark chipset. Furthermore, Elliptic’s team brought a high level of expertise and professionalism to the project and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship."
“It is a great pleasure to secure this relationship with the team at Wavesat,” indicated Richard White President and CEO of Elliptic. “Wavesat is a leader in WiMAX chipsets as illustrated by their large number of design wins and their recent award as the Most Innovative Wireless Broadband Company of the Year at the 2006 Wireless Broadband Innovation (WBI) Awards.”
