MindTree's Bluetooth Stack support Content Protection Schemes

Bangalore -- Aug 17 2006 -- MindTree Consulting, a leading player in the Bluetooth and Ultra wideband technologies, announced the support for content protection schemes in its "EtherMind" Bluetooth protocol upper layer stacks and Profiles.

MindTree Bluetooth protocol stacks support negotiation of SCMS-T (Serial Copy Management System) content protection method. This method has been tested with various products for audio streaming.

MindTree’s Bluetooth Protocol upper layer stack are provided with API’s to handle encrypted data from application layer in case of DTCP (Digital Transmission Content Protection) scheme. There is provision for negotiating DTCP content method and informing the connecting devices in case the DTCP protection scheme is not supported by other device during the process of negotiating the connection parameters. MindTree Bluetooth Protocol Stacks support encrypted data from the application layer that can be handled along with negotiation of connection parameters.

In the recent past, several content protection schemes have been proposed by various industry forums for secure transport and consumption of compressed digital music .Two of the prominent schemes being Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) and Serial Copy Management System (SCMS-T).These content protection systems can then enable various services over internet and other mediums.

Content protection is a generic term that refers to software/hardware systems that safeguard the content. These systems generally employ encryption to protect the content. Content encryption uses a cipher to encode the content so that it is useless for the user/devices unless the content is unencrypted using the same or a related cipher. Encryption protects digital content from being useful if it is intercepted, stolen, or illegally copied. Content protection can apply to many different content types, distribution mediums, and protection schemes.
