OpenTV Licenses S3 Software to Enable Expedited Time to Market for STB Manufacturers
Amsterdam, September 8, 2006 – OpenTV Corp (NASDAQ GM: OPTV), a leading provider of enabling technologies for advanced digital television services, and Silicon & Software Systems Ltd. (S3), a world leader in Digital Consumer solutions, today announced that OpenTV has licensed S3’s coLinkTV™ adaptation software to support the development of their OpenTV Core2™ and PVR2™ middleware. The solution will be demonstrated at OpenTV’s booth 1.381 at the IBC show in Amsterdam, September 8-12, 2006.
coLinkTV delivers to set-top box (STB) manufacturers and pay TV operators the key adaptation software required to rapidly deploy secure, interactive, high definition STB and PVR solutions. It provides a key porting layer between the OpenTV middleware and STMicroelectronics’ STi71xx and STi51xx processor families, enabling rapid deployment of STBs based on these processors. coLinkTV provides a flexible architecture which significantly reduces manufacturers’ development costs and risks while providing a fast path to OpenTV certification. In addition, the product has been proven with industry leading Conditional Access Systems. coLinkTV is already in use by a number of STB manufacturers in ongoing OpenTV-enabled products.
"The strategic relationship between S3 and OpenTV for coLinkTV delivers a major competitive advantage to manufacturers and operators wishing to rapidly deploy market leading, high definition, functionally distinctive STBs and PVRs," commented Paul Kavanagh, Digital Consumer Marketing Manager, S3, at IBC this week. "OpenTV’s decision to use S3’s coLinkTV in their development reference platform is a clear endorsement of our ability to provide differentiating value and compelling benefits to their client base."
"OpenTV has licensed S3’s software because of their unrivalled expertise, expert resources, and in-depth experience and knowledge of our products and receiver systems. S3 is a committed strategic partner of OpenTV enabling expedited STB vendor deployments of our latest products and they have a major role to play in the roll-out of high definition TV services globally," said David McLaren, SVP of Engineering at OpenTV.
