Sital completes a successful 1553 obsolete replacement design
Kfar Saba, Israel - August 21, 2006 - Sital Technology, a leading provider of military standard Intellectual Property (IP) cores, announced today that a large Israel based company, has informed her that the RT1553DES-EVRET is fully functional and performs well in an F5 Avionics integration lab.
The replacement was intended to replace an IC developed by the customer in 1991, and was out of production in 1998. Renewed orders for customer product required the development of a pin-to-pin replacement for the obsolete IC. A daughter board containing a Lattice FPGA with 5v tolerant IOs, a voltage regulator and a number of capacitors were minimized to size of the 84 pin PLCC space daughter board.
The information with which the RT1553DES-EVRET was developed was minimal. merely a hardware software interface document, the board with the original IC, and a schematic diagram of the PCB. Intensive reverse engineering was needed to produce a detailed design requirements document. Based on that document, thorough VHDL simulations were performed. The benefit of those simulations was that that 95% of the features worked perfect on the first day of integration, followed by 4 integration days for overcoming undocumented details or inconsistencies. The initial plan was for one month of integration.
The IC design is a MIL-STD-1553B Remote terminal performing DMA access to the 80196 CPU's RAM memory. A few configuration registers control the IC.
"We are very happy with the short time it took us to provide a 100% accurate replacement for IC. This is the first obsolete replacement project for Sital technology, and its a great success. Considering the small amount of information we had at the beginning + finalized with a minimal amount days of integration at the end, reassures our development team's high engineering capabilities" said Ofer Hofman, Founder and R&D manager.
Sital's IP cores are available for Remote Terminal and Bus Monitor applications. An IP core for Bus Controller applications is performing its final simulations. Sital's business model enables the company to customize pricing models per the customer's specific needs.
