Accelerated Technology Announces Complete RTOS Solution for MIPS Technologies' MIPS32 4K' Family of 32-bit Processor Cores using Green Hills Software Tools
JULY 17, 2000 - Accelerated Technology, Inc. (ATI), the leader of source code and non-royalty based Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) software, announced today that they provide a complete Nucleus embedded software solution for the newest MIPS32 4K? family of 32-bit processor cores from MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS, MIPSB) using Green Hills Software MULTI tools. The combination of tested Nucleus software and the high performance MIPS32 4K family of processor cores establishes a powerful foundation from which engineers can develop a variety of applications. These include office automation, communications (smart and cellular phones), network management, digital consumer devices (digital TVs and cameras, Internet appliances and DVDs), industrial controls, automation and more, all developed quickly and easily with ATI's RTOS products and MIPS Technologies' 4K family of processor cores.
Accelerated Technology's support for the 4K family of processor cores includes Nucleus PLUS, a real-time kernel, and Nucleus NET, an RFC compliant TCP/IP protocol stack including networking features such as point-to-point protocol (PPP). Support for Wiggler and Raven connectivity devices from Macraigor Systems LLC (Brookline Village, MA) rounds out the product offering. By implementing the MULTI tools by Green Hills Software (Santa Barbara, CA), ATI gives embedded developers a premium, all-inclusive environment in which to design applications from start to finish.
- "In an effort to provide the most recent support for new CPUs, Accelerated Technology, with this announcement, shows one of the most comprehensive toolset/CPU combinations available from any RTOS vendor in the market. We continue to strive to provide customers with their choice, rather than just our own choice, as other RTOS vendors do. We want to thank Green Hills for their cooperation on this effort,"said Neil Henderson, president of Accelerated Technology, Inc.
- "Our customers are seeking to reduce their time to market and these new embedded software solutions from ATI do exactly that," said Ed Forbes, Director of Third-party Relations at MIPS Technologies, Inc. "With this new platform, our customers can get a jumpstart on developing their own complex applications, saving time and money."
Nucleus NET is the core component for Accelerated Technology?s suite of networking products. Nucleus NET's basic TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, etc. is a highly versatile protocol stack that is small in size and quick in execution. It behaves seamlessly within a multi-tasking environment and takes advantage of some of the unique features of Nucleus PLUS (like suspending on a queue for a timeout) to enhance the timing characteristics of the stack. This further enhances the real-time environment supported by Nucleus NET.
A complete product line means more than just a kernel. In fact, Accelerated Technology supplies a complete RTOS including prototyping tools, a portable graphics package, development tools, Web-enabling software and system analysis tools. Engineers can now design all of the features they need for their specific applications with the tightly integrated Nucleus RTOS.
Source code availability is a desired option for developers who want a more in-depth understanding of the software that is embedded in their target. Accelerated Technology's policy is to provide source code with all of its embedded software products. Companies that purchase Accelerated Technology's embedded Nucleus software are free from the burden of per-unit royalty fees. This allows them to have all of the RTOS features they need without paying the royalties.
All MIPS32 4K 32-bit processor cores provide a powerful 32-bit RISC processor platform. The MIPS32 4Kp is an entry-level 32-bit processor core that is optimized for small die size and low-power consumption while providing software compatibility with the MIPS32 architecture. The MIPS32 4Km is a mid-range 32-bit processor with fast MAC instructions designed to provide optimum performance at a low price. The MIPS32 4Kc is a high-performance 32-bit processor optimized for performance.
The 4K processor cores are available from MIPS Technologies as synthesizable soft cores as well as TSMC process-optimized hard macros. These flexible implementation options give MIPS Technologies and Accelerated Technology customers more freedom to customize the hardware and software for their specific embedded application.
MULTI is a complete integrated development environment for embedded programmers using C, C++ and Ada 95 and includes an advanced debugger, simulator, project builder, performance profiler, run-time error checker and more. MULTI also provides the graphical interface for the embedded programmer to control the scalable elements of the Green Hills optimizing, ANSI-compliant C++ compiler such as C++ constructs, code size and performance.
Pricing and Availability
Nucleus embedded software is sold with source code and without royalty fees. Licenses for Nucleus PLUS and Nucleus NET start at $12,495.
